Long before there was a Grimey’s or The Basement or even The Slow Bar, Mike “Grimey” Grimes was a working musician who had tasted success, releasing a major label record and touring the world with Bare Jr. Prior to his time in Bare Jr. Grimey, formed a band with several other local heavyweights - Will Kimbrough, whose band Will & The Bushmen had also had some national success, and Tommy Womack, whose band Government Cheese had been one of the most popular local bands in both Nashville and their hometown Bowling Green, KY. Adding drummer Tommy Meyer, the Bis-Quits were born! Signed to John Prine’s Oh Boy! Records as the first rock band on the label, they released their self-titled debut album in 1993. After conquering the local scene with a sound described by Womack as “kinda like NRBQ meets The Replacements” the band unfortunately never gained a lot of traction nationally, despite good press, and the members went onto other projects. Of course the ‘90s was the era of the CD and the album never was pressed to vinyl… until now!
With the original album spanning three sides, a fourth side is added to this new vinyl release, consisting of outtakes, alternate versions and live recordings, along with expanded art and custom inner sleeves with credits & lyrics. But best of all, they’re putting the band back together for one more show! The Bis-Quits will celebrate the long-awaited vinyl release of their album on Oh Boy! Records with a live, in-store performance at Grimey’s on Wednesday, March 8th, at 4:30 PM! Grimey, Will and Tommy will be joined by Joe King (from Government Cheese) on drums and they’ll rock the Grimey’s stage for this free, all ages event. Vinyl copies of The Bis-Quits LP are available now at Grimey's and we'll have plenty on hand for the in-store. The band will meet fans and sign LPs following their performance. Join us and experience a glimpse of the old Nashville music scene once more.
IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION! Our parking lot is shared with other rad businesses and it is a finite space, so parking is limited. In addition to our lot, there is an inexpensive paid parking lot behind Elegy Coffee and Mickey's on Gallatin Road that is a short walk from the shop. Please use EXTREME CAUTION if parking on the nearby, narrow neighborhood streets. Too many cars make these roads impassable and result in angry neighbors, the police being called, and cars being towed. (This is no fun at all.) If possible, please consider carpooling, ride-sharing, walking, biking, scooting, roller skating, or taking the bus to attend The Bis-Quits vinyl release signing & celebration.
