We hope you can make it out on Friday, October 7th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm for a special in-store performance featuring kicking off You Got Gold week here in Nashville and celebrating the vinyl release of Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine Volume 2! In April of 2020 the world lost John Prine, a man who was near and dear to us, and who touched the lives of millions with his songs. We enjoyed visits from John in the record shop and had the pleasure of celebrating the release of Tree of Forgiveness with an amazing performance at The Basement East and with an entertaining and enlightening Q&A in the record shop. If you've visited Grimey's since we've moved to East Trinity Lane, you've no doubt seen John's mural on the side of our building urging us all to Stay Independent, an ethos he championed with his own Oh Boy Records. For this very special musical celebration, we'll be joined by some truly stellar guests, hand picked by Oh Boy, who will perform songs by John, honoring both his songcraft and the man himself.
Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows Volume 2, the follow up to the original 2010 tribute record, features new renditions of some of Prine’s most beloved songs performed by Brandi Carlile, Tyler Childers, Iris DeMent, Emmylou Harris, Jason Isbell, Valerie June, Margo Price, Bonnie Raitt, Nathaniel Rateliff, Amanda Shires, Sturgill Simpson and John Paul White. Proceeds from the album will benefit twelve different non-profit organizations, one selected by each of the featured artists. You can preorder vinyl copies of Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows Vol. 2 on limited edition opaque blue vinyl and standard black vinyl from our webstore here. Your preorder reserves a wristband to our exclusive in-store event. Due to limited space in the record shop wristbands are required to attend for everyone 13+. A Note on Wristbands + Preorders: Wristbands are free with preorders through Grimey’s and are required for all attendees 13+. One preorder purchased = one wristband. Wristbands are non-transferable. If you live out of state but want to attend our event, please note the process explained on the preorder page and select local shipping for your preorder. Preorders for local pick up will be available at our event.
IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION! Our parking lot is shared with other rad businesses and it is a finite space, so parking is limited. In addition to our lot, there is an inexpensive paid parking lot behind Elegy Coffee and Mickey's on Gallatin Road that is a short walk from the shop. Please use EXTREME CAUTION if parking on the nearby, narrow neighborhood streets. Too many cars make these roads impassable and result in angry neighbors, the police being called, and cars being towed. (This is no fun at all.) If possible, please consider carpooling, ride-sharing, walking, biking, scooting, roller skating, or taking the bus to attend our Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows 2 record release celebration.
