We hope you’ll make plans to join us on Thursday, August 31st at 4:00 PM for a special in-store performance & album signing by Jess Nolan! We’re super happy to be celebrating her Righteous Babe Records debut with her while she’s in town (she’s been busy on the road the summer singing with Jenny Lewis!) The new album is called ‘93 and Jess will play a short set as a duo in the shop, which will be followed immediately by an album signing. In addition, we’ll be giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky attendee to see Jess on Friday, September 8th at Soft Junk for her Record Release Concert. (No cost for contest entry, must be present to win.) We’ll have vinyl copies of ‘93 available for purchase in the store at our event and they’re also available for preorder here. This is a free & all ages shindig, so come one, come all!
The seeds of Jess’s ’93 sprouted in the height of 2020. In the midst of the initial involuntary stillness, she planted a backyard vegetable garden, moved her involvement in mentoring young female songwriters online, and traveled back to her New Jersey hometown to stay with family for weeks at a time. In the face of uncertainty, strong, deeply-rooted feelings came pouring out, resulting in 10 poignant reflections on rebirth, reconnection, and mindfulness. With an intention for listeners to feel grounded from its first moment, ‘93 is meant to be a meditation, bringing a sense of rootedness in its execution. “The process of recording this was relaxed,” Jess recalls. “It’s the safest I’ve ever felt while creating something.”
‘93 is available to preorder on our site here, plus we’ll have copies available in the shop starting 8/31. Jess will be autographing albums for event attendees; any preorders placed for mail order will also be signed by Jess prior to shipping.
IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION! Our parking lot is shared with other rad businesses and it is a finite space, so parking is limited. In addition to our lot, there is a paid parking lot behind Elegy Coffee and Mickey's on Gallatin Road that is a short walk from the shop. Please use EXTREME CAUTION if parking on the nearby, narrow neighborhood streets. Too many cars make these roads impassable and result in angry neighbors, the police being called, and cars being towed. There is a police office who lives in the neighborhood across the street from the store and his driveway has been blocked by event attendees 3 times so far in 2023 (!!!) We do not want anger or disrespect any of our neighbors, especially not that one. DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAYS OR PARK IN UNAPPROVED ALLEY SPACES or you will be swiftly towed. (This is no fun at all.) Please consider carpooling, ride-sharing, walking, biking, scooting, roller skating, or taking the bus to attend this Grimey’s event.
