We’re so excited to welcome acclaimed singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun in the record shop on Friday, October 18th at 3:00 PM to celebrate the release of her new album, Observations from a Crowded Room! Joy will be performing an intimate set in the shop and then signing copies of her new album. We had the privilege of hosting Joy in the past and know we’re in for a treat! Make plans to join us and preorder your copy of Observations from a Crowded Room now in the record shop or on our webstore here. All orders placed for local store pickup will receive a wristband for the post-performance album signing and that guarantees entrance to our event. Wristbands are required for the signing for all 13+ (kids 12 & under do not need a wristband if attending with a wristband-holding adult).

We’re pleased to announc that our friends at Headcount will be hanging out with us from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Friday, 10/18, to share information about where, when and how to vote early as well as about how to access sample ballots and learn more about the candiates and referendums appearing on the November election ballot.

Since her breakthrough in 2020, Oladokun has been hailed by Rolling Stone as "Nashville’s most low-key musical revolutionary" and celebrated for her uniquely vulnerable voice. Oladokun has released two highly acclaimed albums—2021’s in defense of my own happiness and 2023’s Proof of Life—both appearing on numerous best-of-the-year lists. Oladokun's new album, Observations From a Crowded Room, marks a significant evolution in her career. The 15-track collection—comprised of 12 songs and 3 interludes—reflects her growth as an artist and producer, blending her pop-folk roots with electronic and psychedelic elements. Solely written and produced by Oladokun, the album represents a personal and artistic turning point, crafted during a period of introspection and questioning. In addition to releasing new music, Oladokun is embarking on an extensive tour that includes dates with Hozier and Tyler Childers, along with select headline shows. A proud queer Black woman and daughter of Nigerian immigrants, Oladokun has graced prestigious stages like the White House for the Respect for Marriage Act signing ceremony, as well as national TV appearances. She has also performed on “CBS Saturday Morning,” “TODAY,” PBS’ “Austin City Limits,” and NPR Music’s “Tiny Desk (Home) Concert.” Her song "i see america" was a finalist for the Recording Academy’s Special Merit Award for Best Song for Social Change. Widely respected by her peers, Oladokun has collaborated with amazing artists such as Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Jason Isbell and Noah Kahan. And she’ll be hitting the road again in 2025 for her Blackbird Tour and will be playing at our beloved Mother Church here in Nashville, The Ryman Auditorium, on Thursday, March 27th. Tickets go on sale on October 4th.

Our celebration with Joy on October 18th is going to be a fun time, don’t sleep on this one, Nashville! You can secure your copy of Observations from a Crowded Room and a wristband for Joy’s signing on our site now or in the record shop. We’ll also have copies of her previous two albums as well as her new one available for purchase in the shop at our event (while supplies last). See you soon, friends!
