Linger Ficken' Good... And Other Barnyard Oddities is the third studio album by industrial rock band Revolting Cocks. Andrew Cyrille, Wadada Leo Smith, Bill Frisell - Lebroba LP (ECM)
Recently released on CD - now available on vinyl. Andrew Cyrille's title Lebroba is a contraction of Leland, Brooklyn and Baltimore, birthplaces of the protagonists of an album bringing together three of creative music's independent thinkers. Each of them made his first ECM appearance long ago: drummer Andrew Cyrille on Marion Brown's Afternoon Of A Georgia Faun (1970), trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith on his own classic Divine Love (1978), and guitarist Bill Frisell on Eberhard Weber's Fluid Rustle (1979); these are, of course, players of enduring influence. Frisell contributed to Cyrille's previous ECM disc The Declaration Of Musical Independence, but Lebroba marks a first-time meeting for the guitarist and Smith.
William Prince - Earthly Days LP (Glassnote)
New release from the Canadian folk and country singer/songwriter. From ruminations on life and love's little treasures to tales of everyday homegrown heroes, the music of William Prince unfurls like a classic campfire story, midnight road trip conversation, or well-worn, dog-eared novel passed down through generations. Each line delivered in his dusky baritone evokes a journeyman, troubadour spirit buoyed by stained glass soul with the gusto to reach steeple-size heights. Given this emotional heft, it makes sense that the art form bears a metaphysical significance for the Juno Award-winning singer and songwriter.
John Mellencamp - Other People's Stuff LP (Republic)
Recently released on CD - now available on vinyl. John Mellencamp's career in music, spanning more than 40 years, has seen him transition from pop star to one of the most highly respected singer/songwriters of his generation. Mariah Carey - Caution LP (Epic)

Produced by Grammy nominated/multiple ASCAP award winner Nineteen85, who has worked with Drake and Jordan Manswell (Daniel Caesar), atmospheric beats abound on preceding tracks like "GTFO", with Mariah finding even more nuance in her seamlessly-spun vocal repertoire, her velvety, middle-range virtuosity once again dazzling in breathy hues.

The band's affinity for fast, choppy power chords and manic energy is in evidence here, as the band stretches it's legs throughout these solid closing credits and shows why they were one of the leaders of a sound that has never gone (or will go) out of style.

This Louisville, Kentucky-based duo found an instant creative connection: Dundiff's organic yet hard hitting productions, a balance of live instrumentation and sample-based compositions, complement Otis Junior soulful timbre perfectly, straddling worlds of hip-hop and soul. Split Decision Band - Split Decision Band LP (Now Again)
Split Decision Band have been known to deep soul, funk and disco collectors for decades for their sought after 7" "Watching Out/Dazed," long thought to be the band's only recordings. Now-Again presents an album of devastatingly good disco and boogie from the unlikely city of Des Moines, Iowa. Flipping's collaborations with Prince's stable made him a Midwestern legend, but his band's music is more than an urban tall tale - this album finally proves to the world their merits.

Robbie Basho - Venus in Cancer LP (Traffic Entertainment Group)
The compositions and performances of Daniel R. Robinson Jr., a.k.a. Robbie Basho, were integral in the development of the American primitive guitar style. However, unlike his contemporaries, Basho went a step further by incorporating unorthodox open tunings on his 12-string guitar, as well as elements of Indian classical music, inspired by the sarod-playing of his mentor Ali Akbar Khan. All of Basho's signature stylistic elements are on full display on his 1969 album Venus In Cancer, which added onto his dextrous, steel-string finger-picking, additional cues from raga, flamenco, Appalachian folk, and even foresaw the arrival of new age music.
John Cage - Early Electronic and Tape Music LP (Sub Rosa)
2018 repress. Although John Cage occasionally worked in large, sophisticated studios, his approach to electronic and tape music was often uncomplicated, makeshift, and pragmatic, employing simple tabletop devices: tape machines, phonograph cartridges, contact microphones, record players, portable radios, etc. He developed a soundworld that was utterly new, radical and demanding. It heralded the age of the loudspeaker, mass communication and Marshall McLuhan's 'global village.' The hiss, crackle and hum of electronic circuits, and the disembodied sounds, snatched by radio from the ether, spoke of the 20th century.
Specimens - In the Dust of Idols LP (SVS Records)
An ambient/drone album exploring mortality, existentialism and the dread and awe one can feel in the face of an apparently meaningless world. In The Dust Of Idols ties in this sense of wonderment coupled with the overarching dread of contemplating one's own existence. "My ambition was to create a dense sonic backdrop, a representation of the confusion and insecurities we all can feel when questioning our existence - you know there should be answers but you can't quite make out what they are" explains Alex Ives, the man behind Specimens. It's not all dark, though; moments of optimism and cracks of light pepper the record giving enough hope to pursue questioning the unanswerable. Edition of 300 on white/blue splatter vinyl.
