The War And Treaty - Hearts Town CD/LP (Rounder)

Sylvan Esso - Free Love CD/LP (Loma Vista)

Free Love thrives on collaborative frisson - two people pushing one another into new territories with the shared assurance of knowing they're in good company, a sort of trust fall in reverse. Yes, these 10 songs are some of electro-pop duo Sylvan Esso's most direct. And most delicate. And most intricate. And most urgent. Free Love carries the confidence of two people delighted to be all those things, together, at once. Tantalizing opener "What If" is a brief, minimal and enticing track which finds Amelia Meath singing over spacious synth-bleeps, "Oh life, dyingout/ And the oceans turnto clouds." The Archaeas - The Archaeas LP (Goner)

Beginning as a one witch band, Archaeas now perform as a perfectly-balanced rock trio with frightening power, reflecting punk rock 'n' roll from the last fifty years-AC/DC, Johnny Thunders' Heartbreakers and The Dead Boys through The Reatards and Carbonas, even early Ty Segall-but The Archaeas are young enough to soak up sounds, attitudes, riffs and turnarounds from other bands and songs and still push them into their own Battle Royale.

Artemis - Artemis LP (Blue Note)

Recently released on CD - now available on vinyl. Artemis - the jazz supergroup comprised of pianist and musical director Renee Rosnes, clarinetist Anat Cohen, tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, bassist Noriko Ueda, drummer Allison Miller, and featured vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant - release their self-titled debut album on Blue Note Records. The group is distinctive not only for bringing together seven singular artists, each renowned for their own remarkable solo career; but for its multi-generational and globe-spanning line-up with members hailing from the US, Canada, France, Chile, Israel, and Japan. Artemis conjures a powerful collective voice from seven of the most acclaimed musicians in modern jazz.Artemis is a superb nine-song set that features material composed and/or arranged by each of the band's six instrumentalists. Artemis unfurls with a dynamic flow, stunningly eclectic yet entirely cohesive.

The Band Of Heathens - Stranger CD/LP (BOH)

Austin, TX's The Band of Heathens return with Stranger, their most inventive release to date. The follow up to 2017's critically acclaimed Duende, the band recorded this new effort in Portland, OR with producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, Modest Mouse). The result is something different - a more airy, intimate atmosphere, with added emphasis on songcraft and intricate arrangements set in a spacious sonic landscape that reinvents the band's sound. These are songs stripped of pretense, but teeming with the emotion borne of personal experience, as has been The Band Of Heathens' method from the very start. Stranger moves off into a new place, but still echoes the group's artful songwriting and multi-layered narrative observations.

Bassnectar - All Colors 2xLP (ATO)

Recently released on CD - now available on gold colored vinyl. Bassnectar is the brainchild of Lorin Ashton, and his open-sourced musical project is as diverse as it is imaginary, as raw as it is meticulous, and as fierce as it is stunning. Spanning the spectrum of sonic style, the music draws inspiration from every genre imaginable and supplies a synthesis of intense, wobbling basslines and hypnotic soundscapes for a devout international audience that desires the beautiful and the bestial in the same breath. Bassnectar's new studio album, All Colors, signifies a merging of music and social change.

Seth Bogart - Men On The Verge Of Nothing LP (Wacko Wacko/Sister Polygon)

New album from the Los Angeles-based musician, artist and DIY / queer icon. Men On The Verge Of Nothing is a return to form for the artist with DIY-roots, entirely written and produced by Bogart himself with the exception of the reimagined cover of the X-Ray Spex's track "Oh Bondage Up Yours!" which features contributions from Kathleen Hanna and Kate Nash.

The Buckleys - Daydream CD/LP (Petrol)

The Buckleys are a chart-topping teenage sibling trio from Byron Bay, Australia with roots in country music and an energetic live show which blends country, rock 'n' roll, soul and pop. At only 20, 19 and 17 years old respectively, The Buckleys combine honest storytelling with a fresh, dynamic and exciting blend of musical influences that capture their youthful and electrifying energy both on stage and in the recording studio.

Will Butler - Generations LP+MP3 (Merge)

In the five years since Will Butler released his debut album, Policy, he's toured the world both solo and as a member of Arcade Fire, released the Friday Night live album, recorded and released Arcade Fire's Everything Now, earned his master's degree in public policy from Harvard, hosted a series of touring town halls on local issues (police contracts, prison reform, municipal paid sick leave, voting rights), and spent time raising his three children.Generations is a meditation on Butler's place in society and history. According to Butler, "A big chunk of this record is asking: What's my place in American history? What's my place in America's present? Both in general...but, also extremely particularly: me as Will Butler, rich person, white person, Mormon, Yankee, parent, musician of some sort, I guess."

Bill Callahan - Gold Record LP (Drag City)

Recently released on CD - now available on vinyl. The abiding humanity of latter-day Callahan is highlighted by dark plumes of caustic wit upending standards of our everyday life and the songs that celebrate it: the job, the wife, the TV, the neighbors. Bill slips easily into his characters, whether they're easy people or not - and the cross-hatch of their light and shadow is unpredictably entertaining in the manner that belongs only one singer in this whole wide world: we're still talking about Bill Callahan.

Cambatta - LSD: Lunar Solar Duality LP (Mello Music Group)

Recently released on CD - now available on vinyl. Hip-hop artist Cambatta is known for his thought provoking and psychedelic-inspired rhyme techniques. His newest album, LSD, is just as the title insinuates - mind-bending and consciousness-shifting. The album was created throughout four years of psychedelic usage and reality-based life changing events.

Cosmic Vibrations ft. Dwight Trible - Pathways & Passages CD/LP (Spiritmuse)

An interplanetary journey from this new, LA based six-strong ensemble of experienced musicians that define spiritual jazz in the 21st century. This is a genre-defying amalgam of divine vocals by Dwight Trible, Sun Ra-esque jazz with world influences, laced with indigenous instruments, taking you into a cosmic journey of spiritual improvisation and beyond.

Deftones - Ohms CD/LP (WB)

Multiplatinum, Grammy Award-winning alternative rockers Deftones are back with their ninth studio album. Ohms is an other-worldly body of work meticulously crafted by the five-piece band. It is a magnificent tour de force and their first album in four years following 2016's critically acclaimed Gore. The band, which includes Chino Moreno, Frank Delgado, Stephen Carpenter, Abe Cunningham, and Sergio Vega, has produced a dense LP with every member firing on all cylinders. Diana DeMuth - Misadventure CD (Creaky Gate)

Restless and ready to pave her own way, Diana DeMuth has burst onto the singer-songwriter scene with an arresting perspective about life, love and self-discovery. Growing up on the coast of Massachusetts, DeMuth was immersed in a bohemian upbringing where she moved from place to place with hippie parents. That same restless spirit inhabited DeMuth. After seeing The Avett Brothers from the front row when she was 13, she was enamored with their raw performance and hunger on stage. In that moment, she knew she wanted to be an artist one day. So at 19, after going to college for one week, DeMuth left because she was certain music was her path. For the past five years, she's focused on just that.

Roger Eno and Brian Eno - Luminous 12" (Verve/Deutsche Grammophon)

The Mixing Colours story continues with the EP Luminous, adding to Roger Eno and Brian Eno's first duo album on Deutsche Grammophon released last March. Includes "Pewter", formerly a Japan-only bonus track, as well as six brand new tracks. As with the Mixing Colours album, the artist Dom Theobald has supplied the original cover artwork.

Anna von Hausswolff - All Thoughts Fly LP (Southern Lord)

Musician/composer Anna Von Hausswolff's All Thoughts Fly ultimately embodies the exploration of any and all possibilities, and the audience is invited to listen, liberate the mind and let it wander. Consisting of just one instrument, the pipe organ, All Thoughts Fly radiates a melancholic beauty and is distinguished by fluid transitions of contrasting elements; calmness and drama, harmony and dissonance, much like the place that inspires the music. 

Eric Hilton - Infinite Everywhere LP (Monserrat House)

Recently released on CD - now available on vinyl. After 25 years as the cofounder/writer/producer of Washington D.C. downtempo group Thievery Corporation, Eric Hilton releases his first solo record. Infinite Everywhere, a trip-hop dreamscape of beautiful melodies and wistful instrumentals, is an exploration of inner space. While Thievery genre-hops across and within their albums, Hilton's solo debut is distilled, focused, more personal. The title and concept is remarkably prescient, conveying melancholia and optimism in equal measures.

IDLES - Ultra Mono CD/LP (Partisan)

Following Brutalism (2017) and Joy As An Act Of Resistance (2018), two releases that garnered global critical acclaim, Idles return with their highly anticipated third album - Ultra Mono. Sonically constructed to capture the feeling of a hip-hop record (including production contribution from Kenny Beats), the album doubles down on the vitriolic sneer and blunt social commentary of their past work. Not far beneath the surface of their self-admitted sloganeering lies a deeply complex and brutally relevant album that chews up clichés and spits them out as high art for the masses. On Room For The Moon, Kate NV follows the muse of music from one chamber of illusion to the next, harmonizing lunar lullabies with a starry compositional choreography. Conjured from unlived memories of '70s and '80s Russian and Japanese pop music and film, Room For The Moon is a 20th century fairy tale suspended in time like a moon torn from a paper sky.

Khotin - Finds You Well CD/LP+MP3 (Ghostly Int'l)

Since debuting his Khotin project in 2014, Edmonton's Dylan Khotin-Foote has fine-tuned an impressionistic, dream-like style of music that straddles multiple sonic worlds. His output often sways from gentle synthesized atmospherics to hypnotic, dance-minded frameworks. [Limited transparent green colored vinyl pressing.]

Diana Krall - This Dream Of You CD/2xLP (Impulse/Verve)

Diana Krall's new self-produced studio album This Dream Of You consists of sessions that took place in 2016 and 2017, with personally chosen gems from the American Songbook and more. The record features lead-off single "But Beautiful", Krall's last collaboration with friend and longtime creative partner Tommy LiPuma who died in 2017 at 80, as well as tracks like "Almost Like Being In Love" and "That's All". Krall heads a quartet line-up on some tracks that includes such long-standing collaborators as John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton and Anthony Wilson, while other tracks feature a trio format spotlighting Christian McBride and Russell Malone.

The Lickerish Quartet - Threesome Vol. 1 LP (Label Logic)

The Lickerish Quartet is a supergroup of sought-after musicians, former members of the legendary band, Jellyfish: Eric Dover ((Imperial Drag, Slash's Snakepit, Alice Cooper, Sextus), Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Beck, Air, Cheap Trick, Imperial Drag) and Tim Smith (Noel Gallagher, The Finn Brothers, Sheryl Crow).

Lil Yachty - Lil Boat 3 2xLP (Quality Control)

Atlanta native rapper Lil Yachty returns with the third and final installment of the Lil Boat series. Hit singles include "T.D" feat. A$AP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator, & Tierra Whack and "Oprah's Bank Account" feat. Drake & DaBaby.

Christian McBride Big Band - For Jimmy, Wes & Oliver 2xLP (Mack Avenue)

Arlo McKinley - Die Midwestern LP (Oh Boy)

Recently released on CD - now available on vinyl. Coming out of the eclectic Cincinnati music scene that has produced everyone from The National and Walk The Moon to Bootsy Collins, Arlo McKinley has washed his songs in the blood of street soul, country, punk and gospel - and tattooed them onto the underground. Filled with a weight, honesty and gritty-hope from rustbelt city life, McKinley rolled downriver to Memphis to Sun Studio where Grammy Award-winning producer Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price, John Prine) gathered a working man's all-star band to record Die Midwestern. McKinley's 10 original songs bleed truth and emotion from a heart scarred by wild nights and redeemed by Sunday morning confessions. In the winter of 2019, Bob Mould bucked the era's despair with his most melodic, upbeat album in ages, Sunshine Rock. Cut to spring of 2020, and he has this to say: "We're really in deep shit now." That sentiment informs the new full-length album, Blue Hearts, the raging-but-catchy yin to Sunshine Rock's yang. Recorded at the famed Electrical Audio in Chicago with Beau Sorenson engineering and Mould producing, Blue Hearts nods to Mould's past while remaining firmly planted in the issues of the day.

Paris - Safe Space Invader CD (Guerrilla Funk)

In this era of reckoning for American policing, increases of racism fostered by the most incompetent president in modern times, and a global pandemic that has affected all areas of life as we once knew it, voices of dissent in entertainment have become more relevant than ever. Public Enemy - What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down? CD (Def Jam)

Legendary hip-hop group Public Enemy returns to Def Jam - a cultural institution that they helped build - for their first release for the label in over two decades with What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down? The loaded 17-track affair boasts a powerful lineup of guests including Nas, YG, Rapsody, DJ Premier, Black Thought, Questlove, Cypress Hill, Run-DMC, Ice-T, PMD, George Clinton, Daddy-O, Jahi, The Impossebulls, Mark Jenkins, S1Ws Pop Diesel, James Bomb and Mike D and Ad-Rock of Beastie Boys.The album is led by the single "Fight The Power: Remix 2020", re-conceptualized by Public Enemy with Nas, Rapsody, Black Thought, YG, Jahi and Questlove for the 2020 BET Awards in June 2020, and officially released as a single along with the album announcement. It also includes Public Enemy's recent single, "State Of The Union (STFU)", produced by DJ Premier. The track holds nothing back as it calls out Donald Trump and his destructive reign. Omar Rodriguez-López - The Cloud Hill Tapes Pts. I, II & III 3xLP (Clouds Hill)

During the 2000s Rodríguez-López released an astonishing variety of solo works. On these recordings the artist used pieces that had accumulated over the years. However, what has so far been missing is a release that brings together the pieces from that era. This wait now has come to an end. These recordings of three sessions dating from the years 2018 and 2019 and taken at the Clouds Hill Studio are now being gathered together as a triple-vinyl LP box set. Part I features eight pieces, and Parts II and III six pieces each, which have been entirely newly arranged, produced by Johann Scheerer, and performed by Omar Rodríguez-López and a range of guest musicians. 

Sad13 - Haunted Painting CD/LP (Wax Nine)

Drawing inspiration from 1980s British pop-rock à la Tracy Ullman and Joan Armatrading, as well as the contemporary digital gloss of post-PC Music electronica, Sadie Dupuis aka Sad13 calls Haunted Painting "decidedly non-minimal," mixing technicolor synth-pop and math-rock dynamism. Accompanied throughout by drummer Zoë Brecher - and, on two songs, by an eight-piece orchestra - Dupuis handles all other instrumentation herself, expanding her palette of guitar, bass, and synth to include organ, lap steel, marimba, glockenspiel, sitar, autoharp, Theremin, "toys, trash, and ephemera." She worked exclusively with women engineers; among those credited are mixer Sarah Tudzin (Weyes Blood, Illuminati Hotties), tracking engineers Erin Tonkon (David Bowie, Esperanza Spalding) and Maryam Qudus (Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, mxmtoon), and Dupuis' long term collaborator, mastering legend Emily Lazar (Beck, Dolly Parton). The process allowed for a diversity of timbres, as well as guest vocal contributions from Helado Negro's Roberto Lange, Deerhoof's Satomi Matsuzaki, Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs, and Pile's Rick Maguire. Maverick orchestra The String Theory may be known primarily for their long-term collaboration with the gentle Swedish troubadour José González, yet has over time grown into a massive artist collective in their own right, curiously exploring the outskirts of contemporary neoclassical and electronic music.

Surfer Blood - Carefree Theatre CD/LP (Kanine)

Carefree Theatre is Surfer Blood's fifth studio album and marks a return to their first label Kanine Records. Written and recorded in South Florida, it's the first record the band has released since John Paul Pitts, the singer and main songwriter moved back to the state. It's an album not as much looking back as coming full-circle. The Carefree Theatre in West Palm Beach, FL was the only venue in town for most of the band's childhood; it's where kids would go for everything from touring punk bands to community theater productions. It was the kind of experience that would expose a 21-year-old songwriter to a world outside of Florida, and inspire him to start a band and tour the country. Tricky - Fall To Pieces CD/LP (!K7)

"Tricky has always worn his bruised heart on his sleeve. His brilliantly desolate debut album, Maxinquaye, was inspired by his mother, who died when he was four years old, and a song like 'Strugglin'' laid bare in excruciating detail his experiences of pain, darkness, and toil. Fall To Pieces, which contains some of the most darkly moving music that Tricky has produced since that debut album, was produced in the shadow of tragedy. Tricky's daughter Mazy died in 2019 as he was beginning work on a new record. Here, on his 14th studio album, he translates that unimaginable loss into moments of nauseatingly raw emotion.However personal the burden of Tricky's grief, his collaborators have played a significant role in shaping the sound and feel of the album. WorldService Project - Hiding In Plain Sight CD/LP (RareNoise)

Over the course of its previous four albums, UK punk-jazz outfit WorldService Project carried its keen-edged, window-rattling irreverence across the globe, casting an eviscerating glance inward while spreading its message of chaotic compassion to the scattered remnants of the former British Empire and beyond. With the release of the gleefully anarchic Hiding In Plain Sight, keyboardist-vocalist Dave Morecroft takes on his native land from an outsider's perspective for the first time, having decamped for Rome in his own personal Brexit.

Prince - Sign O' The Times [Reissue/1987] 2xCD/3xCD/8xCD+DVD/4xLP/13xLP+DVD/2xLP (WB)

Overflowing with musical ideas and topical lyrics that sound just as relevant today as they did when they were initially released, Prince's iconic double album Sign O' The Times captures the artist in a period of complete reinvention and innovation. The final 16-track album included just some of the countless songs Prince recorded in the prolific period of 1985-1987, which saw the dissolution of his band The Revolution, the construction of his innovative recording complex, Paisley Park, and the creation (and ultimate abandonment) of the albums Dream Factory, Camille, and Crystal Ball. [Available in a wide variety of configurations: Standard, Expanded, Deluxe and Super Deluxe. The Deluxe edition adds 13 singles mixes and edits. The Super Deluxe edition contains 92 audio tracks, of which 63 are previously unreleased, including 45 studio tracks from Prince's legendary Vault. 2LP version is a limited edition peach colored double-vinyl pressing.]

The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Dave Digs Disney [Reissue/1957] LP (Analog Sparks)

Dave Digs Disney is considered to be The Dave Brubeck Quartet's second most important album after Time Out and includes Disney classics such as "Give A Little Whistle", "Heigh-Ho", "When You Wish Upon A Star" and "Some Day My Prince Will Come", among others.

Dashboard Confessional - MTV Unplugged 2.0 LP (Hidden Note/MTV Unplugged)

Celebrating 20 years of Dashboard Confessional in 2020 - available on vinyl for the first time. Building on the success of 1972 Dr. John's Gumbo, the next year Dr. John continued upon this path, releasing In The Right Place in 1973. Produced by the legendary producer Allen Toussaint and featuring New Orleans funk legends The Meters as backing band, In The Right Place took the more polished sounds developed on Gumbo, and traded psychedelia for New Orleans funk, for a sound that still pulsated with the spirit of Louisiana, but was imminently danceable as well. In The Right Place was not only a critical hit, but marked Dr. John's greatest commercial success, reaching #24 on the album charts, and rendering a Top 10 hit out of the title track. This reissue pressed on Mardi Gras Splatter colored vinyl.

Ayalew Mesfin - Che Belew CD/LP (Now Again)

Ayalew Mesfin stands aside the likes of Mulatu Astake, Mahmoud Ahmed, Hailu Mergia and Alemayehu Eshete as a legend of 1970s Ethiopia. Mesfin's music is some of the funkiest to arise from this unconquerable East African nation. Though Mesfin was forced underground by the Derg regime that took control of Ethiopia in 1974, he has returned almost 50 years later with this triumphant set of albums - the first time that his music has been presented in this form. This anthology gives us a chance to discover a rare & beautiful moment in music history, in an anthology built from his uber-rare 7" single releases. LP version contains an oversized book that tells the story of modern Ethiopian music and Mesfin's role within it. In late November of 2018, long-time collaborators (and life-long Los Angelenos) Carlos Niño & Miguel Atwood-Ferguson flew to Chicago to participate in the album release performance of Makaya McCraven's Universal Beings. Just 11 months prior, Carlos & Miguel were part of recording the 'Los Angeles Side' of Universal Beings at Jeff Parker's house in Altadena, California, and this performance in Chicago would be the first time that all of the musicians reunited to relearn and perform the music they'd collectively composed during those sessions.

As purportedly the first black-owned jazz imprint since the '20s, the Black Jazz label had its roots in the Black Power movement of the late '60s and early '70s. But not every album on the label had a social message. Kellee Patterson's Maiden Voyage was simply an extremely tasteful, mellow jazz vocal album, recorded with the top-notch sidemen that characterized Black Jazz sessions.The album is highlighted by a beautiful vocal performance by Patterson of Herbie Hancock's title tune, backed with such premium players as long-time George Duke sideman John Heard on acoustic bass and Ray Charles touring band member George Harper on flute.

The previously unreleased live release features special guest appearances from Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Eric Clapton and John Lee Hooker and is presented in a variety of multi-format configurations, including a deluxe four-LP colored vinyl set.
