We hope you’ll make plans to join us on Friday, September 15th at 5:00 PM for a special in-store performance & album signing with Be Your Own Pet! We’ll be celebrating the release of their new album, Mommy! It’s their first album in over a decade and we cannot wait to rock out with them in the record shop. The band will perform a short set to be followed immediately by an album signing**.
Formed by Jemina Pearl, Jonas Stein, Nathan Vasquez, and Jamin Orrall in the mid-00’s, Be Your Own Pet delivered the fun, frenetic teenage jams Nashville needed at the time and helped further our local punk & garage rock scene by inspiring countless others. Due out August 25th via Third Man Records, Mommy was recorded in Nashville at Battle Tapes Studio with Jeremy Ferguson, who also also served as co-producer. The album finds Be Your Own Pet exploring themes of politics, feminism, motherhood, and mental health all while continuing to deliver punky, playful, and clever tunes. Written and performed by Pearl, Stein, Vasquez, and John Eatherly (who served as the band’s drummer after the departure of Orrall), the new album sets the record straight in some ways and allows the band to choose their own path forward so there’s a lot to celebrate. Please come out on September 15th for this special performance & signing on this very happy occasion! You can catch a full set of music from the band on Saturday, September 16th when they headline The Blue Room Bar at Third Man Records. (Stay tuned for an upcoming ticket giveaway on social media.) Mommy is available to preorder in the record store & on our webstore here on limited edition “Living Dead” Green Vinyl, featuring alternate cover art, and on CD. All preorders placed for local pickup will include a wristband.
**Wristbands are required for the signing. Each album preordered for local pickup comes with a wristband, such that one album preordered = one wristband, two albums preordered = two wristbands, etc. Space for our event is limited and a wristband guarantees entrance. (Kids 12 & under do not require wristbands.)
IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION! Our parking lot is shared with other rad businesses and it is a finite space, so parking is limited. In addition to our lot, there is a paid parking lot behind Elegy Coffee and Mickey's on Gallatin Road that is a short walk from the shop. Please use EXTREME CAUTION if parking on the nearby, narrow neighborhood streets. Too many cars make these roads impassable and result in angry neighbors, the police being called, and cars being towed. There is a police office who lives in the neighborhood across the street from the store and his driveway has been blocked by event attendees 3 times so far in 2023 (!!!) We do not want anger or disrespect any of our neighbors, especially not that one. DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAYS OR PARK IN UNAPPROVED ALLEY SPACES or you will be swiftly towed. (This is no fun at all.) Please consider carpooling, ride-sharing, walking, biking, scooting, roller skating, or taking the bus to attend this Grimey’s event.
