**UPDATE** Due to the current conditions surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, we’ve had to postpone in-store performances in order to maintain a safe space in the store for our customers and staff as well as performers. We're working to reschedule Jill Andrews’ performance here but are unable to announce a new date until we all have a better understanding about the timing and impact of the pandemic. We do still have copies of Jill's new album and book, Thirties, available for preorder in the store or on our website and we're happy to mail you your vinyl, CD or book, please just select the shipping option when checking out. Alternately, purchased albums & books will be available for local pick-up during our modified store hours. Thanks for your understanding. - 3/19/20
Americana artist Jill Andrews has a new record and an accompanying book coming on March 27th called Thirties. The book and album chronicle the stories of a woman in her thirties - single parenting, falling in and out of love, wrestling with voices from the past and struggling with the idea of the future. In Thirties: The Album in Portrait and Prose, acclaimed singer-songwriter Jill Andrews gives these unsung moments the voice and vision her music has always wanted. Tenderly, hauntingly, and without fear, the thirteen sections in Thirties chronicle Andrews's journey through a decade rife with both beauty and brutality. Each song-inspired vignette is further enlivened by thoughtfully curated photos, revealing experiences that are at once both universal and intimate.
"I decided to write an album and a book about my experiences" says Andrews. "When all was said and done, I had thirteen songs about my life, some of the most intimate I'd ever written. I gathered up some of my beautiful and talented friends to make an album. I wanted to maintain a lot of creative control in the recording process because the content was so personal and I wanted a lot of say in how it sounded, so I asked my friend Lucas Morton to produce it with me. We brought in musicians Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk (Grammy award winning producers for Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour), Todd Lomboardo (Instrumentalist on Golden Hour), and Peter Groenwald (of Hush Kids) to play on it."
We're pleased to welcome Jill Andrews to Grimey's on Tuesday, March 31st, at 6PM, to perform songs from the album and talk about her book Thirties. The performance is free and all ages. You can preorder Thirties on vinyl & CD and the book as well at the Grimey's website. Andrews will also play a show at Mercy Lounge on Thursday, April 2nd. Tickets for that are available here. We are also giving away a pair of tickets for that show, so come by the store and put your name in our enter-to-win box for a chance to win those!
