Please join us on Friday, November 4th at 6:00 PM as we celebrate the release of Rayland Baxter’s If I Was a Butterfly with a special in-store performance by Baxter. To attend our event you can preorder the album on vinyl or CD from our site here or in the record store; all who preorder the album will receive a wristband guaranteeing access to the performance. The good people from local kombucha brewers Walker Brothers will be on hand for the festivities providing complimentary drinks for those in attendance.
If I Were A Butterfly is the fourth studio album from Baxter. The record examines loss and existential ruminations on happiness and freedom and was completed in the wake of his father, the legendary Bucky Baxter’s (Bob Dylan’s longtime pedal steel player and member of Steve Earle’s Dukes) passing. His late father appears on the album along with a host of collaborators including Shakey Graves, Zac Cockrell of Alabama Shakes, members of Cage the Elephant, Stella, Rose, Morning Teleportation’s Travis Goodwin, and legendary Motown drummer Miss Bobbye Hall, among many others. If I Were A Butterfly was in large part recorded while Baxter was living alone at Thunder Sound, an abandoned rubber-band factory turned studio in Kentucky with later sessions taking place in California, Tennessee, Texas and Washington. The album is due out November 4th via ATO Records and is available on clear vinyl as well as CD. You can preorder autographed copies on our webstore here.
A Note on Wristbands + Preorders: Wristbands are free with preorders through Grimey’s and are required for all attendees 13+. One preorder purchased = one wristband. Wristbands are non-transferable. You can preorder If I Was a Butterfly in the record shop as well as on our website. If you live out of state but want to attend our event, please note the process explained on the preorder page and select local shipping for your preorder. Preorders for local pick up will be available at our event. All preorders will be autographed by Rayland Baxter.
IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION! Our parking lot is shared with other rad businesses and it is a finite space, so parking is limited. In addition to our lot, there is an inexpensive paid parking lot behind Elegy Coffee and Mickey's on Gallatin Road that is a short walk from the shop. Please use EXTREME CAUTION if parking on the nearby, narrow neighborhood streets. Too many cars make these roads impassable and result in angry neighbors, the police being called, and cars being towed. (This is no fun at all.) If possible, please consider carpooling, ride-sharing, walking, biking, scooting, roller skating, or taking the bus to attend Rayland’s record release celebration.
