We hope you’ll be able to join us for a special stripped down in-store performance by St. Paul & the Broken Bones on Tuesday, April 25th at 4:00 PM to celebrate the release of their new album, Angels In Science Fiction. We’ve had the pleasure of hosting St. Paul & Co. in the past at our old location and cannot wait to host them here! Customers who preorder the album for local pickup from Grimey’s, via our link here or in the record store, will also receive a wristband for St. Paul’s album signing at Grimey’s on 4/25, to immediately follow their performance. Wristbands are required for the signing, however those 12 and under do not need a wristband if attending with an adult who has a wristband of their own. Space is limited and wristbands guarantee entrance.

The new album, Angels In Science Fiction, was written in the span of a few weeks after (St.) Paul Janeway learned that his wife was pregnant with their daughter, Marigold. Following the examples set by greats like Aristotle, William James and John Steinbeck, Janeway penned the album as a series of letters to his then-unborn daughter. “A few people told me it would be a good idea to write letters to my yet to be born daughter before she arrived into the world,” says Janeway. “That is what Angels in Science Fiction is. Themes throughout the album are faith, nature vs nurture, anxiety and beauty. This is a record I would have written whether I did this for a living or not. I don’t know if those records come along all the time.”

Angels In Science Fiction was recorded at Sam Phillips Recording Studio in Memphis and was produced by Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, John Prine, Elvis Presley). It follows the band’s critically acclaimed 2022 album, The Alien Coast.

In celebration of the new music, St. Paul & The Broken Bones have embarked on a run of U.S., European and Australian shows that continues throughout the year—visit stpaulandthebrokenbones.com/shows for a complete list of dates with more to be announced soon. Don’t miss your chance to see them here on Tuesday, April 25th! We’re pumped and can’t wait to celebrate St. Paul’s new release with all of you. Preorder Angels In Science Fiction on our webstore now or next time you’re in the record shop to secure your signing wristband, guaranteeing your space in the record store for this special event.

IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION! Our parking lot is shared with other rad businesses and it is a finite space, so parking is limited. In addition to our lot, there is an inexpensive paid parking lot behind Elegy Coffee and Mickey's on Gallatin Road that is a short walk from the shop. Please use EXTREME CAUTION if parking on the nearby, narrow neighborhood streets. Too many cars make these roads impassable and result in angry neighbors, the police being called, and cars being towed. (This is no fun at all.) If possible, please consider carpooling, ride-sharing, walking, biking, scooting, roller skating, or taking the bus to attend St. Paul’s record release celebration.
