The British singer-songwriter - born Yolanda Quartey, then known as Yola Carter, and now simply as Yola - grew up in Bristol, performed with Massive Attack and played with a band of her own called Phantom Limb, before releasing an EP as Yola in 2016. She is now poised to release her debut album, Walk Through Fire, produced by Dan Auerbach. "The moment I met Yola I was impressed," says Auerbach. "Her spirit fills the room, just like her voice ... she has the ability to sing in a full roar or barely a whisper and that is a true gift. She made everyone in the studio an instant believer." The album was recorded at Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound in Nashville and features appearances by Vince Gill and Johnny Cash's bassist Dave Roe, plus Gene Chrisman, Bobby Wood, and Molly Tuttle (the Easy Eye 'wrecking crew'). Walk Through Fire establishes Yola as the queen of country soul from the first note. The album is a contemporary twist on a traditional sonic tapestry of orchestral strings, fiddle, steel, and shimmering tremolo guitars. Yola previously performed with Massive Attack, and also played with a band of her own, Phantom Limb, but WalkThroughFire is a career-defining and genre-bending release from one of the most exciting emerging British artists in music today.
