The Wood Brothers have a new album coming out and they're hitting the road to support it. They play The Ryman in Nashville on Valentine's Day, February 14th, and they'll perform at Grimey's on Monday, February 24th, at 6PM.
The balance of darkness and light is at the heart of Kingdom In My Mind, The Wood Brothers seventh studio release and their most spontaneous and experimental collection yet. Recorded over a series of freewheeling, improvised sessions, the record is a reckoning with circumstance, mortality, and human nature, one that finds strength in accepting what lies beyond our control. Thoughtfully honing in on the bittersweet beauty that underlies our doubt and pain, the songs grapple with the power of our external surroundings to shape our internal worlds (and vice versa) through vivid character studies and unflinching self-examination. The lyrics dig deep here, but the arrangements always manage to remain buoyant, drawing from across a broad sonic spectrum to create a transportive, effervescent listening experience that s indicative of the trio s unique place in the modern musical landscape.
The CD for Kingdom In My Mind is out January 24th. The vinyl drops on February 14th and we'll have the limited blue vinyl edition. You can purchase the CD at Grimey's anytime starting tomorrow (when it's released) or you can preorder the vinyl for a wristband to go through the signing line after their performance at Grimey's. The performance itself is free but you must purchase the CD or vinyl to get your records signed. If you pick up the CD or place your vinyl preorder in person at Grimey's, we'll go ahead and give you your wristband. Otherwise wristbands will be distributed on February 24th prior to The Wood Brothers' in-store performance.
We love having a ton of folks join us for in-store performances but we only have limited parking available on-site. Please consider ride sharing, car pooling, biking, walking, riding a scooter, or parking at the inexpensive pay lot behind Walden Bar and Mickey's Tavern on Gallatin Road (it's a very short walk from the shop). Limited parking is also available on the residential streets near the shop, but please be mindful to not block driveways or the roadway when parking, as many of these roads are narrow and become impassable when cars line both sides of the street. We love our neighbors too and hope to keep them happy (and really don't want them to have to call the police about parking issues.)
