Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Brandi Carlile – In These Silent Days CD/LP (New Elektra)

Brandi Carlile follows up 2018's Grammy-winning By The Way, I Forgive You with the highly-anticipated new album In These Silent Days. The ten songs chronicle acceptance, faith, loss and love and channel icons like David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Elton John and Joni Mitchell – the latter two who, by some sort of cosmic alignment of the stars, have turned out to be close friends in addition to being her biggest heroes and inspirations. Recorded once again at Nashville's historic RCA Studio A with producers Dave Cobb and Shooter Jennings, the album features Carlile (vocals, guitar, piano), Tim Hanseroth (vocals, bass), Phil Hanseroth (vocals, guitar), Cobb (guitar, percussion) and Jennings (piano, organ, synth) as well as Chris Powell (drums, percussion), Josh Neumann (strings) and special guests Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius on backing vocals on the track "You And Me On The Rock". [Limited-edition indie store exclusive gold vinyl available in the shop or in the Grimey's webstore.]

Kacey Musgraves - star-crossed autographed color vinyl box set (MCA Nashville)

We received a few copies of Kacey Musgraves' star-crossed limited edition, autographed colored vinyl box set! This version of star-crossed includes the album pressed on 180-gram 1/2+1/2 lavender and clear colored vinyl with gatefold packaging, a star-crossed gold-plated pendant necklace with 16" chain, an embroidered handkerchief and pack of rhinestone stick-on tears (for the ultimate sad listening experience), a lenticular print and an autographed 12" x 12" album art card. *Due to the special nature of this release, copies are limited to one per person.

Asking Alexandra – See What’s On The Inside CD (11-7 Recording Corp./Better Noise Music)

“Ever since frontman Danny Worsnop’s reconciliation with Asking Alexandria in 2016, the band have continually bridged their vocalist’s love of classic rock and country – something evidenced by his solo output and other band We Are Harlot – with their metalcore roots. A formula that’s undoubtedly paid off for the quintet given the huge streaming numbers that accompanied their hard-rock-leaning previous LP, Like A House On Fire, it makes sense that the band have continued down that path for this seventh record. While See What’s On The Inside doesn’t really break any new ground, what it does do is demonstrate Asking Alexandria’s knack for radio-friendly hard-rock, as well as Danny’s tremendous vocal abilities.” [Vinyl edition TBD.]

Asleep At The Wheel – Half A Hundred CD/2xLP (Home Records)

Asleep At The Wheel celebrates their 50th Anniversary with the release of the appropriately titled Half A Hundred Years. The 19 tracks feature original band members, current band members and guest artists. The special guests include legends like Lyle Lovett, George Strait, Lee Ann Womack, Willie Nelson, and Emmylou Harris. Tracks 1-11 are new songs featuring the original band members. Tracks 12-16 are old songs featuring the current band members and Asleep At The Wheel alumni. Tracks 17-19 are songs from the vaults that have never been released and track 14 features the current and the two previous female band members.

Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga – Love For Sale CD/LP/Cassette (Interscope)

Celebrating 10 years since they first recorded together, Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga returned to the studio for another collaboration featuring the very best of the Cole Porter Songbook. Continuing the musical legacy that began with "Lady Is A Tramp", followed by the Grammy-winning album, Cheek To Cheek, this new recording captures the evolution of the singular creative and personal relationship of these two world famous artists. Tony, who turned 95 on August 3, 2021, has spent over seven decades dedicated to performing the Great American Songbook and Gaga who, with Tony by her side, renewed her love of the popular standard and redefined herself in the process. The album features duets as well as solo performances by both artists accompanied by Tony Bennett's quartet, The Brian Newman Quintet, along with big band and orchestral arrangements by Marion Evans and Jorge Callandrelli.

The Body / Big Brave – Leaving None But Small Birds CD/LP+MP3 (Thrill Jockey)

New collaboration between The Body and Big Brave. After the former's I've Seen All I Need to See and the latter's Vital from earlier this year, the two heavy experimental bands teamed up for Leaving None But Small Birds. The two bands sought to create an album outside their respective stylistic realms, specifically taking influence from country and folk music. [Indie exclusive greenish clear vinyl.]

Boy Scouts – Wayfinder CD (ANTI-)

On Wayfinder, the follow-up to the acclaimed 2019 album Free Company, Oakland-based songwriter Taylor Vick, under her songwriting moniker Boy Scouts, chases down life's queries to the very edge of the horizon. This is an album that's not afraid to track down what it all means - how life unspools around the monoliths of love and death, the heavy knots of even quotidian conflict, the task of carrying your own suffering with you day after day, the challenge of meeting other people out here in the tangled expanse of living. In a warm, expansive style that recalls the raw punctures of Lucinda Williams and Alex G, Vick once again shows herself to be a fearless seeker shedding light on the unanswerable. Vick's true superpower is her voice. Strands of slide guitar, organ, and strings ring under her affable, expressive voice, bolstering layers and layers of harmony. There is something so honest about her songs, they feel like a late-night therapy session with your best friend. [Vinyl edition due October 22.]

Chubby and The Gang – The Mutt’s Nuts LP+MP3 (Partisan)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl (a limited color pressing is also available). West London five-piece Chubby and The Gang are balanced by two energies – a casual "f**k it" on one side, an active "f**k off" on the other. For every moment of punk imperfection, there's an intricate flurry of detail. For every enraged statement about modern life as war, there's a lyric like "Hello heartbreak, my old friend" that catches you off guard. Made up of musicians from across the consistently thriving and criminally overlooked UK hardcore scene (ft. The Chisel, Big Cheese and more), Chubby and The Gang marinate its characteristic speed and sick-of-it-all energy in a mixture of ‘50s pop sounds. The result is a prickly take on the older, more melodic genres that punk derives from, chewing them up and spitting them out into something mangled but revitalized. [Limited edition translucent orange vinyl.]

Container - Creamer 12" (Drone UK)

Container is the solo project of American-born, London-based musician Ren Schofield, who over the last decade has refined a signature sound combining his background in drumming and lo-fi noise with techno and rhythmic electronics, cementing himself as a distinctive and disorderly force in modern electronic music. "My intentions and goals for this record were to make it way more 'rock' oriented than 'techno', almost as if it could be a band or adapted by one (albeit a rather non-traditional one), and I wanted to incorporate some potentially awkward sounding time signatures, but do my best to disguise them as something digestible and not without a groove.

Dolphin Midwives - Body of Water LP (Beacon Sound)

Sage Fisher returns with Body Of Water, recorded last year against the backdrop of the emerging Covid-19 pandemic with Grammy-nominated producer Tucker Martine. Although the harp retains its pivotal role as Fisher's instrument of choice, the album features a stronger emphasis on her voice, delivered in a series of arresting incantations that take flight over a bed of ground-shifting beats and percussion. Mining the rich seams of experimental pop music, Fisher projects warmth and vulnerability alongside a newfound clarity and confidence, bringing themes of betrayal, transformation, and self-renewal into her songwriting process in a true symbiosis of life and art. RIYL: Holly Herndon, Björk, Colleen, Mary Lattimore, Fever Ray, Zeena Parkins, Kate Bush, FKA Twigs.

Melissa Etheridge – One Way Out CD (BMG)

Etheridge stumbled upon these decades old songs/demos years ago while gathering materials for a retrospective box set. As she went through the songs, it brought her back to the start of her career and how they just weren't right for that particular time or album. Some of the tracks were written before she had even come out and never felt comfortable releasing them but knew they would be perfect for the box set. In 2013, the singer found herself back at Henson Studios in Los Angeles with her original band (Fritz Lewak, John Shanks, Kevin McCormick) and would give these songs a new life. Shortly after she finished the record, she would part ways with her label and the box set was shelved. Melissa would begin working on new material and once again, those songs were set aside. That is, until 2020 when she was sorting through old files to share with fans on Etheridge TV's Friday Night Time Machine show. The time was finally right. [Vinyl edition TBD.]

Explosions In The Sky – Big Bend (An Original Soundtrack For Public Television) CD/2xLP+MP3 (Temporary Residence)

In 2019, Explosions In The Sky was approached to craft the score to a new documentary about a place with which, as native Texans, they were very familiar: Big Bend National Park. That documentary, Big Bend: The Wild Frontier Of Texas, premiered on PBS in the United States as well as on a variety of networks in other countries in early 2021. The hour-long film intimately follows the lives of native animals amid expansive aerial views of the iconic desert landscape that makes up one of the grandest natural wonders in the world. The band set these sights to an inspired, melodic, and meaningful blend of acoustic guitar, slide guitar, strings, piano, bells, and drums that feels as alive and diverse--and vast and lonely - as the place it depicts. [Limited edition sky blue vinyl.]

Flying Lotus – Yasuke CD/LP+MP3 (Warp)

Flying Lotus follows the release of his sweeping epic Flamagra and his Producer of the Year Grammy nomination for Thundercat's It Is What It Is, with an expansive original soundtrack for Netflix's new anime series, Yasuke. Lotus is the executive producer and composer of Yasuke, which retells the story of feudal Japan's first African samurai who served with Oda Nobunaga. The series is directed by LeSean Thomas, stars Lakeith Stanfield and features Takeshi Koike as its lead designer. Lotus' score for Yasuke is an unforgettable titan in his musical canon, drawing enhanced influence from prior instrumental and vocal works alike, while looking towards the future uncompromisingly. The music lies heavily steeped within the legacy of jazz and electronic instrumentation, with select feature appearances by longtime friends and collaborators: Thundercat, Denzel Curry and Niki Randa. [Limited-edition red vinyl.]

Four Stroke Baron – Classics CD/LP (Prosthetic)

Four Stroke Baron return with Classics - their third full length studio album, mixed by Devin Townsend and brimming with catchy riffs and unforgettable choruses - in other words, classics. [A limited-edition color vinyl pressing is available.]

JW Francis – WANDERKID CD (Sunday Best)

WANDERKID is the sophomore album from New York’s next lo-fi legend, JW Francis and in an appropriately maverick move, has been released whilst its creator is in the middle of trekking 2000 miles along the Appalachian Trail. With support for JW’s debut album flooding in from BBC 6Music, DIY Magazine, The Line of Best Fit, Wonderland, NME, The Independent, HMV to name a few, JW is fast making a name for himself as one of the most exciting new artists around. Musically, he takes his lead from the greats of the Downtown scene - Patti Smith, The Velvet Underground, Television, Talking Heads, The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs - and is fast emerging at the forefront of the next generation of New York greats.

Full Of Hell – Garden Of Burning Apparitions CD/LP (Relapse)

A genre-bending blitzkrieg of hardcore, grind and death metal, Garden Of Burning Apparitions sees Full Of Hell expand upon the very elements that have propelled them to the forefront of extreme music over the last decade. [Limited-edition neon yellow vinyl.]

Hockey Dad – Brain Candy CD/LP (BMG)

Raw energy, loveable irreverence and dynamite tunes have become synonymous traits of the unmistakable, sun-drenched pop of Australian-duo Hockey Dad. The childhood mates formed in a beach side town in the southeast of Australia have taken their raucous shows and jangly fuzz-pop songs all around the globe. The duo come bursting through the gates with new offering Brain Candy which is full of frenetic energy and manic guitar lines. [Indie exclusive yellow vinyl.]

Hovvdy – True Love CD/LP/Cassette (Grand Jury)

Austin indie folk duo Hovvdy return with their fourth album, True Love. Recorded over the winter of 2020 in L.A. with Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief, Bon Iver), the album is about growth and nostalgia. Both band members got married. One had a kid. They've found themselves individually away from the band but settling into their most creatively fertile moment as a duo. A nod to their roots and a reach for more, True Love maturely embraces the best of the duo's hyper-genuine, chin-up qualities developed over the past seven years. Charlie and Will note: "This collection of songs feels to us like a return to form, writing and recording songs for ourselves and loved ones. Spending less energy consumed with how people may respond freed us up to put our efforts into creating an honest, heartfelt album that spans a range of sonic landscapes, yet feels like a singular breath." [A limited-edition indie store exclusive hot pink vinyl.]

Makeup and Vanity Set - Music System LP (Ship to Shore)

Vinyl release from the Nashville dreamwave act. Essentially a compilation album consisting of subscriber-exclusive tracks released over several months in 2018 and 2019, Music System is an electronic marvel. Modular synths are layered over one another as IDM beats merge into ambient soundscapes; a literal tangerine dream.

OneRepublic – Human LP (Mosley Music/Interscope)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Billions of people have listened to Beyonce’s “Halo”, Adele’s “Rumour Has It” and Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Heart”. Each of these pop hits have reached top spots in the charts. These three songs share a commonality: Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic. From writing songs for other artists, producing their own hits, having numerous television and movie appearances and winning three Grammy awards, OneRepublic became a powerhouse of talent and should be the quintessential example of success in the music industry. The band’s new (fifth) album, Human, features the singles "Rescue Me", "Somebody To Love", "Wanted", and "Run". "[Human] is re-calibrating everything," Tedder says. "The last album, we stopped promoting it and kinda pulled the plug. I didn't have it in me to do anything for it. This is us returning to what the original sound was: strings; orchestral; emotive...”

Daniel O'Sullivan - Fourth Density LP (VHF)

Second in a series of three records of Library Music miniatures from composer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel O'Sullivan (Æthenor, Ulver, This Is Not This Heat, etc.) following 2020's Electric Māyā. For heads, the term 'Library Music' in 2021 might evoke dodgy Italian gray market LPs and crate-diggers hunting for 'funky breaks' -- but London's venerable KPM Music is working with groundbreakers like O'Sullivan to open up new avenues for composers to experiment with. Fourth Density's fifteen tracks include several beguiling instrumental beauties, including the Ashra-like 'Astral Survivor' and the drifty 'Faster Than Light.' Mixed in with the instrumental are almost-pop gems like the hypnotic 'Orgone Attenuation' and 'Head In The Belfry,' both with guest vocals from Astrud Steeholder.

Park Hye Jin – Before I Die Baby LP (Ninja Tune)

The debut album from Park Hye Jin. Before I Die Baby was entirely written, produced and performed by the South Korean-born and now L.A.- based producer, rapper, singer, and DJ. Here she continues to expand her sonic palette, drawing on a range of influences that take in electronic, rap/hip-hop and downtempo sensibilities to present the most complete vision yet of her sound. [Indie exlclusive pink vinyl.]

Pond – 9 CD (Spinning Top)

In Pond's universe nothing stays still for long. Although no one who heard 2019's Tasmania could possibly describe its pulsating psych-pop as straight, Pond wanted to try a more spontaneous way of working for their next record. Taking a leaf out of krautrock outliers Can's book, at the start of 2020, Pond embarked on a series of totally off-the-cuff jam sessions from which songs and ideas could be pulled out. Hence their new album, 9. [Vinyl edition due October 29.]

Chase Rice – The Album CD (Broken Bow)

New release from the multi-platinum country music artist.

Runnner – Always Repeating LP (Run For Cover)

The project of the now L.A.-based songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Noah Weinman, Runnner's poignant reflections on the isolation and anxiety caused by a sense of rootlessness radiate with wit and charm. Weinman played most of the instruments himself, including guitar, bass, trumpet, banjo, piano and synth. The goal was to create the perfect balance of intimate and melancholy songwriting through the lens of hi-fi/lo-fi dynamics, inspired by his favorite artists like Bon Iver, the Microphones, and Julien Baker. [Limited edition clear vinyl.]

Strand Of Oaks – In Heaven CD/2xLP (Galacticana)

To say In Heaven is about conquering grief would be oversimplifying everything Tim Showalter has achieved on the eighth studio album from Strand Of Oaks. A stunning, hopeful reflection on love, loss, and enlightenment, In Heaven is a triumph in music making, and a preeminent addition to the Strand Of Oaks discography. Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket) is featured on guitar throughout the record, while James Iha (The Smashing Pumpkins) contributed vocals and guitar for "Easter". Bo Koster (My Morning Jacket, Roger Waters) provided keyboards, Cedric LeMoyne (Alanis Morrissette, Remy Zero) bass, Scott Moore violin, and Ratterman monstrous drums. Showalter also played a lot of synth on this record, which he hasn't done since 2014's Heal. With clean sounds, Jeff Lynne-esque acoustics, and sophisticated songwriting, he approached In Heaven in a more poised and pop-leaning way than his past releases. [Limited-edition indie store exclusive translucent pink vinyl.]

Tirzah – Colourgrade CD/LP+MP3 (Domino)

Colourgrade follows on from 2018's immediate cult classic Devotion. It forms a subconscious snapshot from across a year when Tirzah was playing live regularly for the first time, in the depths of promoting Devotion and recorded soon after the birth of her first child and shortly before her second child was born. The album explores recovery, gratitude and new beginnings, presenting a singer having discovered the type of love that is shared between a mother and a child for the first time, whilst simultaneously working as an artist. [Limited edition sunshine yellow vinyl shipped late and will arrive early next week.]

Typhoon – Sympathetic Magic LP (Roll Call)

Sympathetic Magic is the politically charged fifth studio album from Portland, OR indie-rock outfit Typhoon, and first new music since 2018's critically acclaimed Offerings. “The songs are about people - the space between them and the ordinary, miraculous things that happen there, as we come into contact, imitate each other, leave our marks, lose touch,” notes lead singer Kyle Morton. [Indie exclusive translucent brown & opaque sage green vinyl.]

Foy Vance – Signs Of Life LP (Gingerbread Man/Elektra)

Award-winning Northern Irish singer/songwriter Foy Vance releases his fourth studio album Signs Of Life, his second studio effort on Ed Sheeran's Gingerbread Man Records and follow-up to 2016's critically acclaimed The Wild Swan. Signs Of Life is the sound of a beloved singer-songwriter at the peak of his powers. It's also the sound of a man – a husband, a father, a sinner, a drinker – belatedly coming to terms with his demons. Driven by powerful percussion, single "Time Stand Still" features a soaring, emotive vocal from Vance, who was struggling with an addiction to alcohol and painkillers at the time of writing.

Various Artists [Metallica] – Metallica Blacklist 4xCD/7xLP+MP3 (Blackened Recordings)

53 artists cover tracks from Metallica’s smash album Metallica (aka The Black Album). Features Ghost, Weezer, Royal Blood, Volbeat, Elton John, Corey Taylor, Miley Cyrus, My Morning Jacket, St. Vincent, Chris Stapleton, The Neptunes, Juanes, Cage The Elephant, Kamasi Washington, Phoebe Bridgers, and Flatbush Zombies featuring DJ Scratch and many more.

Dar Williams – I’ll Meet You Here CD/LP (BMG)

The first album in six years from the acclaimed folk/Americana singer/songwriter. Dar Williams' lyrics contain bouquets of optimism, delivered on melodies alternating between beguiling lightness and understated gravity. Williams strongly believes that all of us possess our own power and ability to achieve, and she rejects the exceptionalism that encourages us to "admire that yonder star," while making us feel small and insignificant; unworthy of shining on our own but hoping to catch enough distant light to inspire some tiny accomplishment. Williams has always been very interested in how to control our future and this album has to do with the fact that at some point, you just can't.

Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad – Instrumentals JID009 CD/2xLP (Jazz Is Dead)

More than the previous eight Jazz Is Dead releases, Instrumentals JID009 delivers on Adrian and Ali's original promise of showcasing the music made with their heroes, laying bare the inspired compositions created when different generations of musicians come together to collaborate in the studio. These 19 instrumental recordings encapsulate the spirit of the Jazz Is Dead concert and recording series, celebrating the African American art form known as jazz through improvisation, musical collaboration and authentic cross-generational and cross-cultural communication.

Zen Arcade – High Fidelity 12” (BFD)

Limited edition lime green vinyl pressing. A double A-side that packs a lacked punch and lacks a packed lunch while the B-side features the second in a series of secret Higher Fidelity episodes.

Reissues & From The Archives

Walter Bishop, Jr.'s 4th Cycle ‎– Keeper Of My Soul [Reissue/1973] CD/LP (Real Gone Music)

Digitally remastered edition. Keyboardist Walter Bishop, Jr. recorded the second album released by the Black Jazz label, Coral Keys, a masterpiece of Blue Note-style atmospherics infused with '70s soul-jazz. But a mere two years later, Bishop, Jr. brought a whole new sound and a whole new band into the studio for 1973s Keeper Of My Soul.

Black Sabbath – Technical Ecstasy [Reissue/1976] 4xCD/5xLP (Rhino)

Black Sabbath embraced change in 1976 when the heavy metal innovators started managing themselves and began exploring different sounds on the band's seventh studio album, Technical Ecstasy. This box set reissue includes a newly remastered version of the original, a brand-new mix by Steven Wilson, plus more than 90 minutes of previously unreleased outtakes, alternative mixes and live tracks.

Toni Braxton – Libra [Reissue/2005] CD (Empire)

Originally released in 2005 by Blackground Records, Libra is the sixth studio album by R&B superstar Toni Braxton and marked her first release with the label. The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold shortly after its release. Featuring the Scott Storch produced single, "Please", the album marks a well-received return to form for Braxton, with a mix of impressive ballads and uptempo material, rich in serene and mellow tunes.

Buena Vista Social Club – Buena Vista Social Club (25th Anniversary Edition) 2xCD/2xLP+2xCD (World Circuit)

25th Anniversary edition featuring previously unheard tracks from the original 1996 recording sessions, previously unseen photos, and new liner notes. Buena Vista Social Club is both the name given to this extraordinary group of musicians and the album, recorded in just seven days in 1996 in Havana's 1950s vintage EGREM studios. The acclaim of the original album has elevated the artists (including Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González and Omara Portuondo) to superstar status, inspired an award-winning film by Wim Wenders, and has contributed to popularizing Cuba's rich musical heritage. Produced by Ry Cooder, the timeless quality of the music and the sheer verve of the veteran performers have ensured that this will go down as one of the landmark recordings of the 20th century.

Duster – 1975 [Reissue/1999] 12” (Numero)

Y2K prepper-rock for the underemployed. Tracked at home in 1999, the 1975 EP expands on Stratosphere's slacker-positive dreamscape, with layers of guitars both clean and fuzzy, humming organ, and-gasp! - a drum machine. Needle down, candles on.

William Eaton - Music by William Eaton LP (Morning Trip)

2021 repress. "Originally released in 1978, Music By William Eaton is a private-press album from the accomplished experimental stringed instrument builder. The atmospheric recording techniques, mixed with a hint of Fahey/Takoma-lineage make for a listening experience akin to the mountain-scape drawing represented on the album cover. The experience may seem simple at first, but like any great trip in nature, new details consistently reveal themselves upon each listen. 'When I started building instruments, playing guitar took on a whole new dimension. From the conception to the birth of each instrument, new layers of meaning unfolded.' Recommended for fans of John Fahey, Harry Partch, Robbie Basho, Laraaji."

Donald Fagen – Donald Fagan’s The Nightfly Live LP (Geffen)

Released last week on CD – now available on vinyl. Donald Fagen's acclaimed 1982 solo album performed live by the Steely Dan Band. Featuring “I.G.Y.”, “New Frontier”, and more.

Grateful Dead – Fox Theatre, St. Louis, MO 12/10/71 3xCD (Grateful Dead)

Complete, previously unreleased performance. One of the shortest-lived iterations of The Grateful Dead was the band that existed December 1971 through March 1972. Jerry, Bob, Phil, Bill, Pigpen, and Keith formed a formidable version of the Dead that only played a few shows together before Donna Jean joined as vocalist, and before Pigpen would depart the stage for good in June 1972. What this sextet lacked in quantity of shows it made up for with creativeness, power, and inspiration. When Pigpen rejoined the Dead on December 1, 1971, after a few months off during which Keith had joined as piano player, the band was now an unstoppably powerful live juggernaut it hadn't been since the height of the Primal Dead era in late 1968-1969. Widely considered one of the best shows from the Pigpen-Keith era of The Grateful Dead, Fox Theatre, St. Louis, MO 12/10/71 has it all. [Vinyl box set edition due November 19.]

Rudolph Johnson ‎– The Second Coming [Reissue/1973] LP (Real Gone Music)

Digitally remastered edition. The album title is apt, as this was saxman Rudolph Johnson's second album for the Black Jazz label (and this reissue marks only the second time this 1973 album has been released on vinyl). But more importantly, the quality of the music it contains renders the more common, Messianic meaning of the phrase 'the second coming' equally applicable. Saxman and bandleader Rudolph Johnson never attained the commercial success of some of his contemporaries, but his fans consider him the rightful heir to John Coltrane's improvisational genius. [Limited edition orange with black swirl vinyl.]

Katatonia – Mnemosynean 3xLP (Peaceville)

Marking 30 years since the formation of one of the most enigmatic an aurally captivating bands to grace the dark rock/prog genre, Mnemosynean contains an extensive collection of all Katatonia's rarities and B-sides, including tracks from the band's numerous EPs, unused album songs, limited special edition bonuses, cover songs, as well as a series of collaborative remixes.

Little Willie John – The Complete R&B Hit Singles LP (Real Gone Music)

Diminutive in size but gigantic in stature, Little Willie John was a genuine architect of soul. Along with Clyde McPhatter, Ray Charles, and Sam Cooke, the visionary singer stood at the forefront of fusing gospel intensity to rhythm and blues tradition. And had he not died inside a Walla Walla prison at the age of 30, his name would likely be etched in the same soul Pantheon as his peers. [Limited-edition ‘yellow fever’ vinyl.]

Moderat - Moderat LP (Bpitch Control)

2021 repress; gatefold LP version. The debut full-length release by Moderat, the collaborative conjoining of Modeselektor and Apparat. A twist of fate at the Stadtbad Mitte (Berlin-Mitte City Pool) united them in the spring of 2008, and Moderat was reformed. Recorded at the legendary Berlin Hansa Studios (where David Bowie recorded Heroes) in analog with the help of the studio's vintage tube technology and an old EMI console from 1972, restored especially for Moderat. Moderat's self-titled debut makes it sound like these fellas have been working closely together for years -- and the analog production gives these tracks a steady, glowing warmth that pulses and breathes organically. Totally seductive, dark dance tunes that possess an almost tribal disposition for the most intense peak moments.

Adam Ostrar – The Worried Coat [Reissue/2019] LP+MP3 (Keeled Scales)

Vinyl reissue of the Austin, Texas singer’s 2019 album.

Plain White T's ‎– American Nights [Reissue/2015] LP (MRI Associated)

Standard black vinyl is also available and both can be purchased in the shop as well as on our website for mail order and curbside pickup.

Caitlin Rose - Own Side Now LP+7” (ATO)

Nashville in 2010 was a time and place bristling with potential. The city had long been characterized by a sort of underdog spirit, and in 2010, that was in full display at DIY punk venues, run-down honky-tonks and hole-in-the-wall dives. This is where Caitlin Rose worked out the songs which became Own Side Now, a now timeless classic being reissued here as a Deluxe Edition. Revised artwork packaged in a gatefold jacket with a bonus 7" which includes two newer tracks: "Watchoo" and "Only Lies". [Limited edition cloudy clear vinyl + bonus 7”. All copies from Grimey’s are signed by Caitlin and are available in the shop and in the Grimey's webstore!]

Originally released in 2008, the new edition marks the first of six re-recorded albums Swift plans to release. The album features multiple collaborations with her Folklore and Evermore collaborators Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff. In addition to newly recorded versions of the 19 tracks originally included on the deluxe edition of Fearless, the new album includes the 2010 song "Today Was a Fairytale" (first released on the soundtrack for the romantic comedy Valentine's Day) and six additional songs “from the vault.” [A double-cassette edition is also available.]

John Tejada - Signs Under Test 2xLP+CD (Kompakt)

2021 repress of the 2015 album; double LP on 180 gram vinyl, with CD. Signs Under Test sees the L.A.-based synth mastermind digging deeper into his modules, unearthing particularly dreamy tracks that rank among John's most accomplished work to date. Beautifully-rendered melodies and finely-tuned textures create a perfect storm of cozy melancholy and celestial bliss. "Everything is built from the ground up using hardware synths -- mostly analog, but that's a bit annoying to say nowadays. It's not a record that fits in with any current stuff, but something that hopefully holds up as it ages. Something that hopefully reveals more on repeated listens."

Various Artists – The Daptone Super Soul Revue Live! At The Apollo 2xCD/3xLP (Daptone)

Daptone celebrates 20 years of soulful music with the release of the 32-track The Daptone Super Soul Revue Live! At the Apollo. Featuring live sets from Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley and his Extraordinaires, Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens, Antibalas, The Budos Band, Menahan Street Band, Saun & Starr, The Sugarman 3, as well Daptone emcee, Binky Griptite, the album is lovingly dedicated to the memories of Sharon, Charles, Naomi and Cliff. [Limited edition translucent teal color vinyl.]

Jagjaguwar invites listeners to Join The Ritual, as the record label begins the third quarter of its 25th Anniversary through a celebration of those who have guided its history. With a nod to the company's roots in Dungeons & Dragons, Join The Ritual pays homage to the artists and fellow independent titans like Drag City, K Records, Too Pure, Touch & Go and more who originally inspired Jagjaguwar to take a seat at the table and enter the wild, dark magic ritual of music. Neil Young – Carnegie Hall 1970 2xCD/2xLP (WB)

On December 4, 1970, Neil Young played two legendary solo acoustic shows at New York's Carnegie Hall. The 23 songs on Carnegie Hall 1970 have been mixed from the original ¼ inch tapes by Young and Niko Bolas. This is the early show which has never been bootlegged or circulated and is the first release in Neil's new Official Bootleg Series. "Listening to existing bootlegs, it seems that all the bootleggers got the second Carnegie Hall show," Young shares. "There was one at 8:00 pm and one at midnight [about 27 hours later]. No one got that first one – the first time I walked onstage at Carnegie Hall, blowing my own 25-year-old mind...This one – Carnegie Hall, December 4th, 1970, is very special to me."
