Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Ada Lea – One Hand On the Steering Wheel The Other Sewing A Garden CD/LP+MP3 (Saddle Creek)

One Hand On The Steering Wheel the Other Sewing A Garden is the second album by Canadian songwriter Alexandra Levy, publicly known by the moniker Ada Lea. On one hand, it's a collection of walking-paced, cathartic pop/folk songs; on the other, it's a book of heart-twisting, rear-view stories of city life. The album is set in Montreal and each song exists as a dot on a personal history map of the city where Levy grew up. Many of the songs on one hand came together with a blend of studio tracks and elements from the pre-recorded demos. The resulting sounds range from classic, soft-rock beauty to intimate finger-picked folk passages and night-drive art-pop. And the textures are frequently surprising due to the collage of lo-fi and hi-fi sounds that tastefully decorate the album without ever clouding the heart-center of the song. [Lmited-edition yellow vinyl & indie exclusive transparent red vinyl are available.]

Angels & Airwaves – Lifeforms CD/LP (BMG)

The Tom DeLonge-fronted Angels & Airwaves return with their sixth studio album, Lifeforms. It's been seven years since multi-platinum rockers have played a show and three years since they've released new music. The album is ushered in by lead singles "Rebel Girl" and "Restless Souls". "'Rebel Girl' is a space-age love song that combines my enduring obsession for new wave, pop-punk, and anthemic rock and roll music," says DeLonge. "'Restless Souls' in many ways is an honest letter from God to humanity – because life seems to always be looking for ways to inspire, clarify and teach us when things become more difficult." Of Lifeforms, he adds, "This album for me is a journey through different relationships, different points of view, and how we each have our own life path." [Limited bonus guitar picks and stickers are available with purchase. Vinyl has shipped late and will arrive next week.]

Badflower – This Is How The World Ends CD/2xLP (Varvatos)

Since their emergence in 2014, Badflower has notched three No. 1s off their critically acclaimed debut album OK, I'm Sick, scored iHeart Rock Song of 2020 with "Ghost", and hit the Top 5 with "30". Wielding their signature energy, the music taps into a gritty and grungy gutter rock spirit complemented by jarring theatrical delivery and unshakable riffing. The band's latest single "F**k The World" is already Top 10 and climbing and introduces Badflower's highly anticipated second studio album, This Is How The World Ends.

Dave Chappelle, Talib Kweli & Yasiin Bey – The Midnight Miracle CD (Blacksmith)

The album was recorded during Chappelle's legendary 2020 Summer Camp in Ohio and released in 2021.

The Connells – Steadman’s Wake CD (Missing Piece)

The Connells release, Steadman's Wake, is their first new album in over 20 years. [Vinyl edition due October 22.]

The Cookers – Look Out! CD/2xLP (Gearbox)

In jazz's heyday era of the heady ‘60s and early ‘70s, these cats were behind some of the greatest releases of the genre, from Pharaoh Sanders' Karma to Charles Lloyd's Forest Flower. Collectively they've performed and recorded with the likes of Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, and McCoy Tyner. Together they carry forth this legacy as The Cookers, one of the 21st century's foremost supergroups. Look Out! is their first album in five years and the first to be recorded at Van Gelder's historic Englewood Cliffs studio. Featuring all original compositions, the music embodies the name of this illustrious ensemble; hot, hard-hitting soul jazz, full of momentum and fire. [Vinyl is shipping late.]

Theo Croker – BLK2LIFE / A Future Past CD (Masterworks)

Every trip needs a guide. Through the trumpet, Theo Croker narrates a human story rooted in intimate experience, yet cognizant of cosmic consciousness. The Grammy-nominated artist, producer, composer, thought leader, influencer, and tastemaker unpacks moments of heroism, trials, tribulations, awakenings, and apotheosis within a musical pastiche brought to life by a myriad of fellow cultural renegades and threaded together by his playing. This journey unfolds in technicolor on his sixth full-length offering. [Vinyl edition due October 29.]

Jad & David Fair – Halloween Songs LP+MP3 (Kill Rock Stars)
Jad & David Fair – Monster Songs For Children LP+MP3 (Kill Rock Stars)

Color vinyl pressings. The Fair brothers have written more songs than The Rolling Stones and Beatles combined. Their subject matter once limited only to love and monster songs has expanded to a depth and range equal to that of the majestic Rocky Mountains. This year they're back with two sets of Halloween songs.

Colleen Green – Cool CD/LP/cassette (Hardly Art)

Colleen Green has always been cool, but on 2015's I Want To Grow Up, she didn't necessarily feel it. Too young to be free of insecurities but old enough to be sick of them running her life, Green was experiencing an existential crisis. Five years and a new album later, we find her parsing out what it means to be grown-up – and realizing that it's actually pretty Cool. Opener "Someone Else" is a paean to power in which Green lets a lover know that double standards can go both ways. A groovy bass loop and zig-zagging guitar lines underscore her realization that happiness is in her own hands, and the vibe is set. Next up is the witty, catchy "I Wanna Be A Dog", where Green celebrates the simplicity of a canine life and questions why she's still overcomplicating her own. Dark and slinky "Highway" uses ruthless driving as a metaphor for a lifestyle that no longer interests her. Burnt out on bad feelings and ready to have fun with melodies and beats, Green enlisted producer Gordon Raphael (The Strokes) to take her songs to higher ground while keeping her lo-fi aesthetic intact. [Limited edition cloudy smoke vinyl.]

Mickey Guyton – Remember Her Name CD (Capitol Nashville)

Remember Her Name follows the release of her critically acclaimed Bridges EP which included “Black Like Me” for which she went on to receive a historic Grammy nomination. Her performance on the prestigious Grammy show was the first by a black female country artist and was touted by NPR as the night's most affecting live performance. She co-penned 15 of the 16 songs on the album.

Steve Hackett – Surrender Of Silence CD+Blu-ray (Inside Out U.S.)

Deluxe mediabook edition. Surrender Of Silence is the brand-new studio album from legendary guitarist Steve Hackett (Genesis). As with his acoustic album from earlier in 2021, this too was recorded during lockdown and involving several musicians and singers contributing from around the world. Hackett's regular touring band of Roger King (keyboards, programming and orchestral arrangements), Rob Townsend (sax, clarinet), Jonas Reingold (bass), Nad Sylvan (vocals) and Craig Blundell (drums) are supplemented by Phil Ehart and Nick D'Virgilio (drums), the vocal talents of Amanda Lehmann, Durga and Lorelei McBroom, Christine Townsend (violin, viola), Malik Mansurov (tar) and Sodirkhon Ubaidulloev (dutar).

Anthony Hamilton – Love Is The New Black CD (My Music Box/BMG)

Grammy-winning artist Anthony Hamilton releases his first new studio album in five years — and his 10th album overall. Love Is The New Black features guest appearances by Jennifer Hudson, Rick Ross and Lil Jon. Among the 14-song set are resonating tracks such as the confessional “Mercy” and the George Floyd-inspired “Mama Don’t Cry”. Jermaine Dupri, 9th Wonder, Bink!, Wu10 & Cardiak and 1500 or Nothin’ are among the producers on board. The album also includes Hamilton’s latest single “You Made A Fool Of Me” which showcases his trademark, church-honed soulful vocals. Of the release, Hamilton stated, “I wanted this album to feel like what was missing throughout the pandemic. This is the restoration. We’re making this thing called life, sexy, beautiful and powerful again. This album is long awaited and inspired by my love for love. Making music that sticks to the gut and gives you a reason to yearn for life — it's all I've ever wanted to give.”

Hiro Kone – Silvercoat The Throng LP (Dais)

New York electronic experimentalist Nicky Mao's fourth full-length, Silvercoat The Throng, emerged against the backdrop of lockdown, compelled by an intuitive directive: "resist the urge to fill the space." Compositionally this translated as a simmering, shadowy energy, veiled but variable, traced in a composite of strings, synthetics, rhythm, and voice. The title alludes to a poetic notion of "possibility, rescued from darkness," which aptly evokes the shapeshifting, devotional feel of these ambitious and elegant sound designs, crafted in defiance of impermanence, driven by the pursuit of becoming "more and more articulated, differentiated." [Limited edition purple vinyl.]

Brittany Howard – Jaime Reimagined LP (ATO)

Limited-edition magenta & black color vinyl pressing. Jaime - the first solo album from Brittany Howard - has been reimagined by an astonishing cross-section of the five-time Grammy winners peers. Featuring fresh takes and remixes from Bon Iver, Childish Gambino, Common, Michael Kiwanuka, Little Dragon and more - Jaime Reimagined illuminates these songs in a brilliant and new light. Jaime was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone, MOJO and Q, named the Best Album of 2019 by NPR and nominated for a Grammy in the Best Alternative Music Album category.

Anne Imhof, Eliza Douglas and Billy Bultheel – SEX LP (PAN)

SEX was composed during the development of Imhof's art exhibition of the same name, previously exhibited at Tate Modern, London, The Art Institute of Chicago and Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea. Music is core to Imhof's work. It functions not only as a soundtrack to perform to, but rather that music itself, and the act of performing music, becomes a work of visual merit by its very nature. Imhof's performance work, in collaboration with Douglas, is often described as visually being a futuristic, nihilist take on pop culture citing metal and grunge aesthetics while making connections to thematics of classical painting. The concert itself becomes a visual language in Imhof's performative work which sits evenly placed with her painting and sculpture.

Caleb Landry Jones – Gadzooks Vol. 1 CD/LP (Sacred Bones)

Caleb Landry Jones is a continual creator. The Texan born star found fame as an actor - you'll recognize him from key roles in X-Men: First Class, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, amongst others - but music is perhaps his first love, and his source of greatest comfort. A chance encounter with famed auteur Jim Jarmusch brought him into the orbit of Sacred Bones. [Limited-edition red vinyl.]

Kiefer – When There’s Love Around CD/2xLP (Stones Throw)

Pianist Kiefer returns with When There's Love Around. An album of two halves, the first is "about feeling small and insignificant and stressed," Kiefer says. "It's about things that cause me to worry, but at the end of the day, are probably unimportant from a larger cosmic perspective." [Limited edition blue & yellow vinyl.]

koleżanka – Place Is LP (Bar/None)

After making a name for herself in the Phoenix indie scene, Kristina Moore, aka koleżanka, spent two years touring as a member of Triathalon and ROAR. Life on the road defined her relationship with place and on her new album she considers just what Place Is. The album explores emotional space, places visited and the people you meet and leave along the way.

The Limiñanas /Laurent Garnier – de Pelicula 2xLP (Because Music)

The psychedelic garage duo The Limiñanas and French techno pioneer Laurent Garnier have produced together de Pelicula. The result is neither a Limiñanas techno record nor a Laurent Garnier rock album. It is a record that feels like a walk on the wild side, straight out of a film noir that was spawned from the need to write music that tells a story and rattles all traditional patterns in a (super)sonic trance. A heated road-trip spent chasing Juliette and Saul, two teenage rascals.

L’Orange – The World Is Still Chaos, But I Feel Better CD (Mello Music Group)

Simultaneously a tribute to depression and wellness, L'Orange's The World Is Still Chaos, But I Feel Better shows a musical and emotional growth from the North Carolina producer. Tension is built and released throughout the 23-track album. The album features guest narration from comedian Nish Kumar and Jeremy Scott (CinemaSins) as well as musicians Marc Rebillet, Solemn Brigham (Marlowe) and Jeremiah Jae. [Vinyl edition due April 1.]

Taylor McCall – Black Powder Soul CD/2xLP (Black Powder Soul)

Emerging singer, songwriter and musician Taylor McCall presents his anticipated full-length debut album, Black Powder Soul. Produced by Sean McConnell (Michael Franti, Wade Bowen), Black Powder Soul is the product of a winding musical journey for McCall that began at age seven when he received his first guitar. In the years since, the South Carolina native and avid outdoorsman and fisherman has formed his own sense of unique musicianship – incorporating self-taught styles that fit each song rather than following conventional techniques. With Black Power Soul's fourteen tracks, including a special prologue featuring the voice of his late grandfather, McCall explores the balance of good and evil, destruction and healing and the importance of having faith in the darkest of times. [All vinyl and CD copies at Grimey’s are signed by Taylor!]

Mac McCaughan – The Sound Of Yourself CD/LP+MP3 (Merge)

Throughout his musical career fronting Superchunk and Portastatic, Mac McCaughan has channeled more than his share of angst and tumult into a microphone, resulting in straight-up undeniable rock anthems. So how can a voice so familiar to others still seem foreign to its owner? On The Sound of Yourself, McCaughan's second record released under his own name, he explores that question fully, shooting his voice through a prism and refracting it across these songs in new and rewarding ways. In January 2021, McCaughan found himself at his home studio in Chapel Hill staring down a clean slate after wrapping up a film score and several other music projects. This setting – a distant light at the end of a figurative tunnel, and a literal room full of instruments – was integral to The Sound Of Yourself. Guests include Michael Benjamin Lerner (Telekinesis), Annie Hayden (Spent), Sabrina Ellis (A Giant Dog, Sweet Spirit), Mackenzie Scott (Torres), Matt Douglas (Mountain Goats), Mary Lattimore, Jon Wurster (Superchunk) and Yo La Tengo. [Translucent pink with orange swirl Peak vinyl.]

Sean McConnell – A Horrible Beautiful Dream 2xLP (Sean McConnell)

Limited-edition mint & pink marbled vinyl pressing. Singer, songwriter and producer Sean McConnell's latest collection of songs A Horrible Beautiful Dream approaches the difficult task of asking questions of what one really thinks they know, in the simultaneous struggle of not being afraid of the answers that emerge. Musically, the project wraps McConnell's rich voice in moments of dark intimacy as well as vivid brightness, and guests such as The Wood Brothers, Natalie Hemby, Fancy Hagood, Audra Mae and Dan Tyminski underscore McConnell's versatility as creative partner and commentator.

Native Soul – Teenage Dreams LP (Awesome Tapes From Africa)

Native Soul was formed in 2019. Until then, each of them had been producing music in a variety of styles including hip-hop, different types of house as well as amapiano. They decided that with Native Soul, their focus would be on amapiano-an electronic music movement which, by then, had begun to dominate both mainstream and underground music scenes in South Africa.

Arturo O'Farrill – Dreaming In Lions CD (Blue Note)

Grammy-winning composer/pianist Arturo O'Farrill makes his Blue Note debut with a vibrant album presenting two suites he conceived in collaboration with the Malpaso Dance Company: “Despedida” is a meditation on farewells, and “Dreaming In Lions” was inspired by Hemingway's The Old Man And The Sea. With the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble featuring his sons, Adam and Zack, Vince Cherico, Carlos Maldonado, Victor Pablo Garcia Gaetan, Jose Rodriguez Platiau, Rafi Malkiel, Alejandro Aviles, and Travis Reuter.

Angel Olsen – Aisles 12”+MP3 (Jagjaguwar)

“The songwriter takes an uncharacteristic breather with a collection of faithful, occasionally brooding covers of 1980s hits like ‘Forever Young’ and ‘The Safety Dance.’” – Pitchfork

Quicksand – Distant Populations CD/LP+MP3 (Epitaph)

New York City post-hardcore band Quicksand deliver their fourth studio album Distant Populations – the follow-up to the critically lauded 2017 release Interiors. Sonically it has a punchier, more up-tempo sound than its predecessor, with its 11 songs being concise, carved sonic jewels boasting not a single wasted note. Its gripping lyricism and raw power leap out from the very first listening. Throughout the album's 11 tracks, Quicksand explores the duality of our simultaneous existence in individual relationships and as part of mass society, while also examining the alienation and loneliness of it all. [Indie exclusive vinyl is due 12/10.]

Jordan Rakei – What We Call Life LP (Ninja Tune)

Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, producer, and songwriter Jordan Rakei is back with his fourth studio album. What We Call Life is his most vulnerable and intimate album to date, lyrically and sonically. While the heart of the record will be familiar to fans of his neo-soul and hip-hop-infused work, here Rakei dives deeper into his sound world, merging electronic with acoustic, and rugged grooves with ambient atmospheres, to create something richer, more detailed, and more textural than before. Recommended if you like Arlo Parks, Hiatus Kaiyote, Loyle Carner and Tom Misch. [Limited edition translucent green vinyl.]

Rivers Of Nihil – The Work CD (Metal Blade)

Reading, Pennsylvania's Rivers Of Nihil have never fit neatly into a box, but with 2018's Where Owls Know My Name, they transcended all labels applied to them. Returning in 2021 with The Work, they have forged further into new territory, delivering an album that is as cerebral as it is visceral, and that covers a staggering sonic range, definitively placing them in a category of their own. While The Work is a very dense, inarguably heavy collection, it is far too dynamic to consider it solely a metal record, and there is a genuine warmth that shows through, particularly on "Wait" and the gorgeous "Maybe One Day", and the band has included far more clean vocals alongside the screaming that tears through many of the heavier tracks. "It spans a lot of different styles, ideas, and emotions. The twists and turns are pretty drastic for your modern-day metal record. There's a lot of what you already know we do, and a lot of what you've never heard us do before," guitarist Brody Uttley said. [A limited-edition color vinyl pressing is available for special order.]

The Rugged Nuggets – Odds & Ends LP (Colemine)

Recorded in the San Fernando Valley just a stone’s throw away from the infamous Van Nuys Blvd. cruising scene, it's no wonder from the debut long player from The Rugged Nuggets hits hard and demands to be turned up loud with the windows rolled down. Delivering west-coast cool at its finest. With swooning strings, breezy guitars and tough as nails drums, Odds & Ends epitomizes a mellow vibe, but is undeniably cool. [Indie exclusive white vinyl.]

Soja – Beauty In The Silence CD/LP (ATO)

For more than two decades, Soja has elated audiences across the globe with their fresh yet timeless take on roots reggae, a sound born from their shared passion for making music that transports and inspires. On Beauty In The Silence – their first new album in four years – the two-time Grammy-nominated band deepens that communal spirit by collaborating with artists from all corners of the reggae world, including the likes of UB40, Slightly Stoopid, Dirty Heads, and Rebelution. Fueled by the sheer force of their connection and chemistry, Beauty In The Silence ultimately makes for a much-needed antidote to fractured times, infusing so much warmth and wisdom and unstoppable joy into each and every track. [Limited-edition white & green splatter vinyl.]

Ringo Starr – Change The World CDEP/Cassette (UMe)

Change The World, recorded at Ringo's Roccabella West, includes “Let's Change The World” (Joseph Williams/Steve Lukather) that delivers a welcome dose of hope and optimism, the reggae-infused “Just That Way” (Ringo Starr/Bruce Sugar,) the Country-esque “Coming Undone”, Starr's first collaboration with Linda Perry who wrote and plays on the track (also with Trombone Shorty,) and Ringo rocks his version of “Rock Around The Clock” revved up by the unmistakable Joe Walsh on guitar. [Vinyl edition due November 19.]

Sufjan Stevens & Angelo de Augustine – A Beginner’s Mind CD/LP (Asthmatic Kitty)

It's been said that writing about music is like dancing about architecture (impossible and absurd). But what about singing about movies? Sufjan Stevens and Angelo de Augustine have paired up for a collaborative project that does just that. A Beginner's Mind is their debut album that contains 14 songs (loosely) based on (mostly) popular films. The source material is highbrow, lowbrow, and everything in between. The music is folksy, sweet, sincere and harmonically effervescent-Simon & Garfunkel with New Age flourishes. [Limited edition Olympus Perseus Shield gold vinyl.]

Sufjan Stevens – Convocations 5xCD/5xLP (Asthmatic Kitty)

Convocations moves like a two-and-a-half-hour requiem mass for our present times of difficulty, it's 49 tracks allowing for all these feelings to be felt. The album is divided into five sonic cycles, each replicating a different stage of mourning. "Meditations" work toward acceptance and resolution, of coming to terms with the day's news even if it stings. The subsequent "Lamentations" slink, sputter, and sometimes grind, as sadness transmutes to anger and back again. The rhythmic drift and glitchy strata of "Revelations" allow for confusion and catharsis, of asking just why the world or the heavens have wronged us. With its bright tones, occasional sweeps of strings, and scrambled voices, "Celebrations" offers furtive bits of fondness, though the nostalgia is never far removed from the news that prompted it. The final nine "Incantations" are lessons for those of us who remain, gorgeous and galvanizing reminders that our time here is as limited as the possibilities for how we spend it are infinite. Convocations occasionally soothes and sometimes hurts; when it's done, you're left with a renewed sense of wonder for being here at all.

Billy Strings – Renewal CD (Rounder)

One of the top emerging artists across all genres of music, Billy Strings has made his most ambitious album to date with Renewal, a 16-song collection that effortlessly positions him as a singular talent-one who reveres the history of the acoustic music that inspired him, while pushing it forward into new spaces and audiences through his incredible live shows. [Vinyl edition due October 8.]

SUUNS – The Witness LP (Joyful Noise)

Limited-edition blue color vinyl pressing. As a band who has been around for thirteen years and toured all corners of the world, there comes a point when the veil of mystique must be fully lifted. Up until now, experimental rockers SUUNS has reveled in mystery like a silhouette disappearing into the mist, releasing albums that rest comfortably in ambiguity, detachment and innuendo. But lately, the band appears to be more comfortable coming clean with their own inner workings. That newfound sense of ease is undeniable on SUUNS' fifth full-length album The Witness.

[Vinyl edition due December 3.]

Third Eye Blind – Our Bande Apart CD (MRI Associated)

Third Eye Blind follow-up 2019's Screamer with their seventh studio album, Our Bande Apart. Written and recorded in the last days of the lockdown, lead single “Box Of Bones” concerns itself with the ambivalence and stakes of relationships under pressure. Magic Roundabout - Up LP (Third Man Records)

Like so many other disenfranchised kids in the heady days of mid-eighties United Kingdom, Magic Roundabout came armed with leather jackets, charity shop instruments, singles by The Fall and Buzzcocks, good haircuts, a healthy VU obsession and a little psychedelic inspiration. The gang established a clubhouse in early 1986 and began rehearsing, recording and gigging. Playing a ton of legendary shows with the likes of The Pastels, Spacemen 3, Loop, and My Bloody Valentine, and picking up a bunch of fans along the way. Rumor has it that Noel Gallagher roadied their final show. Now, these 1987 recordings, recently unearthed by Ian Masters (Pale Saints) and Third Man Records and given the “treatment” by Warren Defever, are presented to you lucky ones as the debut album by Magic Roundabout.

The Prologue: 10th Anniversary Edition deluxe vinyl three-LP box set pulls the curtain back on this seminal album, featuring original iPhone writing demos, early live versions, rehearsals, photos and other ephemera from the band's formative days.

Pixies – Trompe Le Monde [Reissue/1991] LP (4AD)

Limited-edition green color vinyl pressing. 1991's Trompe Le Monde served as the Pixies' fifth and last studio album for 23 years. Boasting a bigger, vaguely psychedelic sound - thanks in part to Captain Beefheart keyboardist Eric Drew Feldman - this underrated set was by turns anthemic (space/time travel saga "Planet Of Sound"), explosive (The Jesus & Mary Chain cover "Head On"), sardonic ("U-Mass", "Subbacultcha") and oddly poignant ("The Sad Punk").

Seam – Headsparks [Reissue/1992] LP (Numero)

In the wake of Bitch Magnet and current of Superchunk, Sooyoung Park and Mac McCaughan formed a raw version of Seam in the summer of '91. With bassist Lexi Mitchell, the trio banged out an album and two singles worth of shambolic dream pop in the sweltering Chapel Hill heat. Ten songs of talk-whispered vocals, sloshing guitar solos, scattered snare rolls, Velocity Girl's Sarah Shannon, and the original version of Codeine's slowcore classic “New Year's”.

25th Anniversary remastered audio.

Sonny And The Sunsets ‎– Tomorrow Is Alright [Reissue/2009] LP (Fat Possum)

Limited blue color vinyl pressing. Sonny An The Sunset's vintage-style west coast pop songs tell sordid tales of death, drowning, outcasts, heavenly visions and otherworldly despair. This was captured in its purest form on their 2009 debut album Tomorrow Is Alright, which still radiates with a classic yet indefinable sound, akin to a futuristic take ‘50s R&B.

Various Artists – An Eclectic Selection of Music From the Arab World, Part 2 2LP (Habibi Funk)

Recently released on CD, now available on vinyl. This compilation of songs is not meant as a historic reflection of popular music of the Arab world. It is a very personal selection of songs we grew to like at Habibi Funk. It is music that historically never existed as a unified musical genre. We think it's important to make this distinction and to have the listener understand that most of the music on this compilation does not come from the highly famous names of the musical spectrum of North Africa and the Middle East. Instead, the final body compiled for this record consists of some - at least for us – niche-y pearls and often overlooked artists; resulting in a diverse range of styles from Egyptian organ funk, disco sounds from Morocco, an example of the lively reggae scene of Libya, political songs from Lebanon, soundtrack music from Algeria, a musical union between Kenya & Oman, and much more.
