Some songs are sad, some are happy, some are hopeful, and some are hopeless, all of them mean something different to me and I pray they mean something to someone else. American Heartbreak is my effort at trying to explain what being a 26-year-old man in America is like. There's love, loss, revelry, resentment, and forgiveness all wrapped into one piece of work."

Alex Chilton – Live In London: Encore Edition 2xLP (Sundazed Music)
White color vinyl pressing. The 14 songs making up the original Live In London were taken from the second night, when the shoeless rocker and his new British buddies had gelled more fully into fighting shape. All of it presented a greasy, ground-level picture of where Chilton's heart resided at the time, delivered with an earnest derangement roughly akin to Captain Beefheart's early funhouse-mirror distortions of the blues. Chilton may have arrived in his pajamas, but he came to rock. Live in London confirms that his mission was accomplished.

The album was recorded in Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN and co-produced by frontman Jim James and Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists). The result is yet another reinvention of the group's sound that both forges new ground and maintains the distinct spirit of MMJ's previous genre bending work.
