New Releases
Anti-Flag – Lies They Tell Our Children CD/LP (Spinefarm)
Pittsburgh's Anti-Flag has made it abundantly clear for nearly 30 years that their message and presence will always feel relevant at any given time. Never afraid to offer raw and unfiltered critiques on the failings of the modern political landscape, or position themselves across multiple genres, Anti-Flag is committed to constant evolution. Now, with their 13th studio album Lies They Tell Our Children, Anti-Flag re-emerges as energetic as ever. [Limited-edition white vinyl.]
Noah Cyrus – The Hardest Part LP (Columbia)
The Hardest Part is the highly anticipated and deeply personal debut album from singer songwriter Noah Cyrus. The album is produced by award-winning record producer Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Ben Howard, The 1975, Wolf Alice), who helped guide her vision and find her voice. Noah oversaw all the arrangements on the record and made sure to emphasize the incorporation of instruments such as pedal steel and slide guitar. The album is filled with songs overflowing with honesty, intellect, nuance, and soul. Noah has lived every song on the album, and the embers of her experiences burn bright over a body of work steeped in pop spirit, folk eloquence, and the country soul of her Nashville roots.
Evgueni Galperine – Theory Of Becoming LP (ECM)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Galperine's ECM New Series debut, Theory Of Becoming, is one of the most original and evocative albums of the year. A composer of Russian and Ukrainian heritage, he explains the sound world the album represents as, "an augmented reality of acoustic instruments, created from recordings made with real and virtual instruments. The numerous transformations the instruments undergo allow me to capture their acoustic nature while also adding techniques and colors impossible to produce in reality..."
Benjamin Lackner / Mathias Eick / Jérôme Regard / Manu Katche – Last Decade LP (ECM)
German-American pianist Benjamin Lackner makes his ECM debut with a star-studded quartet of Manu Katche on drums, trumpeter Mathias Eick and Jérôme Regard on bass. Mathias and Manu share a longstanding association with the label and their unique instrumental signatures can be traced across this set of exclusively original material - eight pieces by Benjamin, one by Jérôme. Last Decade was recorded in Studios La Buissonne, Pernes-Les-Fontaines and produced by Manfred Eicher.
Lord of the Isles - Subtle Thoughts LP (Lapsus Records)
Neil McDonald's love of the outdoors is a constant feature in his music, hence his Lord of the Isles moniker, a direct reference to the Highlands and islands of his native Scotland. His vivid, effervescent and blissfully cinematic sound paints a soundtrack to unmade films, building imaginary worlds inspired by his childhood passion for science fiction. Subtle Thoughts is an album of sumptuous melancholic electronica that, like all his previous works, avoids being pigeonholed. In it you find ambient and IDM, but also breaks and down-tempo 4x4 beats with deep ruminations, and even passages akin to new age and Balearic. In Neil's own words, the real concept behind Subtle Thoughts is: "The spaces in between. Listening to the quiet voices. Freedom of expression and being open. It also contains my hopes and fears for the future of our world, but mainly hope and love."
Iggy Pop – Every Loser LP (Atlantic)
As indicated by the pinned db meters of lead single "Frenzy", Every Loser harkens back to Iggy Pop's primordial roots while maintaining an undeniably modern lyrical point viewpoint and sonic palette. Every Loser is an exemplary album of primal rock 'n' roll – a master class in the art of lashing out with unequalled intensity and unflappable wit. The result is 11 songs by the man who refused to go gently into that good night on his previous album, 2019's somber and contemplative Free, and is once again charging fearlessly at life itself on Every Loser. [Indie store exclusive red vinyl.]
Queensrÿche – Digital Noise Alliance 2xLP (Century Media)
Queensryche's sixteenth studio album and fourth to be helmed by founding guitarist Michael Wilton, vocalist Todd LaTorre and bassist Eddie Jackson, Digital Noise Alliance continues the ever-evolving legacy the Bellevue, Washington born band began in 1982 when they first took hold of the flame with their hugely received self-titled EP. Their recent US tour with Judas Priest proved that the band's time off the road and in the studio only stoked their ambition and fire. Once again teaming producer Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed), Digital Noise Alliance not only refracts Queensrÿche’s past accomplishments but also pushes into the band's future. From the album's frenetic opener, "In Extremis", the pensive, "Forest" or "Behind The Walls", which echoes Queensrÿche classics and genre-defining albums including Operation: Mindcrime and Empire, Digital Noise Alliance is Queensrÿche effortlessly moving from strength to strength: immediate and thought-provoking.
Run The Jewels – Cu4tro CD/2xCD (BMG/RBC)
A complete re-imagining of Run The Jewels classic release RTJ4 with all new music in a Latin American vibe. [An indie-store exclusive deluxe double-CD edition is available.]
John Scofield – John Scofield LP (ECM)
Released last year on CD – now available on vinyl. With a career spanning over half a century, marked by influential collaborations with jazz greats like Miles Davis and Joe Henderson as well as several dozen genre-bending leader dates, it's striking that this is Scofield's first ever guitar-solo recording.
Spiritworld – Deathwestern LP (Century Media)
Produced and mixed by Sam Pura (The Story So Far, Hundredth), Deathwestern is a sonic breath of fresh desert air from the Sin City posse. The album bucks the trends of reverb soaked ‘80s thrash worship productions and delivers a sound that is nothing short of classic. It's punchy, heavy, and utterly pummeling. Two colorways are available: translucent orange and tan. Each includes a booklet and poster.
Colin Stetson - Chimaera I LP (Room40)
Collecting a series of extended drone works for saxophone, Chimæra charts an entirely new thread of work for Stetson. This thread simultaneously maintains states of reductive minimalism and reactive maximalism. The album pushes his physical abilities, as a body and also as a player to a new terrain. The pieces reveal his increasingly refined capacity to compose works that push out-ward testing for the boundaries of timbre, harmony and also density. Each of Chimæra's two pieces forge an almost geological sensibility, tracing out the imagined caverns, hidden hollows and surging magma flows of an underworld that exists beyond the everyday we know. His instrument breathes like wind expelled from lava pipes. The pieces are tactile, engulfing the entire body and the ears with equal ferocity. It is a record that melds together a deeply layered sense of sonic strata with an unwavering harmonic delicacy

Fairuz - Kifak Inta LP (Wewantsounds)
First-time vinyl reissue of Fairuz's classic album Kifak Inta, produced by her son Ziad Rahbani in the late '80s and only released on cassette and CD in 1991. Composed and arranged by Rahbani, who had already produced Wahdon (1979) and Maarifti Feek (1987), Kifak Inta features his usual blend of jazz, funk, and Arabic music, spiced up with Brazilian influences serving Fairuz's beautiful voice. Fairuz is a living legend and one of the greatest divas of the Arab world, and the album follows the same pattern as previous Ziad Rahbani productions for his mother, mixing traditional Arabic music, jazz-funk, and bossa nova, all featuring Ziad's superb orchestrations and slick arrangements. The jewel in the crown is the album's title track, "Kifak Inta" (And You, How Are You?), a ballad written and composed by Ziad Rahbani. The song is sung by a woman opening her heart to her childhood sweetheart, now married to another woman, and confessing she still loves him. The subject was controversial and created quite a stir when the song came out in the still conservative Lebanese society of the time.
Fitz And The Tantrums – Live In Chicago LP (Dangerbird)
Live In Chicago was recorded in 2011 during a sold-out two-night stand at Metro, the legendary Chicago venue forced to launch a GoFundMe Campaign to fight for its survival, a dire predicament faced by countless other entertainment venues in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Available for the first time as a live album that adds six additional performances not included in the original broadcast on the Palladia Network, Live In Chicago captures a rocket in the moment of liftoff, showcasing the band's exhilarating mix of pop hooks and pointed commentary delivered via the crackling onstage chemistry of lead singers Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs.

Part of Blue Note’s Tone Poet Series featuring all-analog, remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.
Sun Ra – Prophet LP (Modern Harmonic)
What happens when a Prophet meets a Prophet? The answer lies within these grooves. Amongst the hundreds of recordings issued by Sun Ra and his Arkestra, under their various guises, the majority were recorded in concert or in makeshift studios such as their early 1960s set-up at NYC's Choreographer's Workshop. Beyond those, roughly 22 albums were recorded at Variety Recording Studio in New York's Times Square. However, on August 25, 1986, Sun Ra and cohorts entered Mission Control, a state-of-the-art 24-track studio north of Boston, which was teeming with electronic keyboards and otherworldly sound generators, including Sequential Circuits legendary Prophet-5 and Prophet-10. Created using microprocessors, a then-new technological advance, under the auspices of engineer Dave Smith in 1978, the Prophet-5 revolutionized electronic music as the first polyphonic and, most importantly, programmable synthesizer. Ra was intrigued by the Prophet (surely by the instrument as well as by the name).
