New Releases
Marshall Allen - New Dawn CD/LP (Mexican Summer)
Two days after his 100th birthday, Marshall Allen embarked on a remarkable journey with the creation of New Dawn, his debut solo album. A revered member of The Sun Ra Arkestra since 1958 and the ensemble's leader since Sun Ra's departure from this realm in 1993, Allen's career has spanned nearly seventy years, yet this marks the first time he has released a solo record under his own name. Rather than bookending an era, New Dawn presents itself as a new chapter for Allen - a love letter to spacetime that channels a century of musical transience and transcendence into seven outer dimensional tracks. A pioneer of the avant-garde, Allen's contributions both inside and beyond the Arkestra are legendary. Allen's voice is one of cosmic spirit, transcending the boundaries of traditional jazz and offering an emotional and spiritual resonance that has drawn comparisons to "Johnny Hodges from outer space." Allen's music has always been more than just sound, journeying through all strata of creative exploration. His mastery of the saxophone, alongside his dedication and demonstration of Sun Ra's teachings, has placed him in a distinct position within the avant-garde jazz universe for decades. New Dawn presents an intimate side of Allen rarely heard before.

Songs like the swooning and anthemic singles 'Dream Boy' and 'Ms. California' encapsulate the highs and lows the exiting the honeymoon stage of a relationship. Califone - The Villager’s Companion CD/LP (Jealous Butcher)
TVC captures the miles between the start and destination—the faded gas station pit stops, the plastic saint statue stuck to the dashboard for safe travels or luck. It embodies the essence of the journey without the burden of driving—the experience of the ride itself. The album takes us through the heart of Califone’s magic: reverb-drenched piano chords, electronic whirs, and layers of experimental noise. Guided by Tim Rutili’s abstract, fragmented lyrics—both strange and familiar—delivered through his warm, well-worn vocals, it creates an experience as evocative as it is haunting. [Indie store exclusive fireworks shimmer color vinyl.]
Alessia Cara - Love & Hyperbole LP (Def Jam)

Richard Dawson - End of the Middle LP (Domino)
End of the Middle is a wonkily beautiful peer into the workings of the family unit, perhaps several generations of the same family: "I wanted this record to be small-scale and very domestic", Dawson explains, "to be stripped back, stark and naked, and let the lyrics and melodies speak for themselves and for the people in the songs". By paring things right back what is revealed is a suite of remarkably poised, oddly elegant, beautiful music. [Indie store exclusive vinyl includes a signed print.]

Lacuna Coil - Sleepless Empire CD/LP (Century Media)
If you know Lacuna Coil then you'll already be aware that every album entry in their storied career is more than just a sound: Each one is a richly textured soundtrack to a specific time and a place. With Sleepless Empire, that place is dark, cinematic, and unmistakably true to the unique characteristics that have given Lacuna Coil such a celebrated entry in the annals of heavy music. - Without the voice, guitars or drums, Sleepless Empire - the orchestral part - would be a cinematic soundtrack. From the colossal refrains of album opener The Siege to the wickedly catchy I Wish You Were Dead and the irrepressibly classic feel of Sleepless Empire's title track, there's no mistaking the confidence of Lacuna Coil's latest, and it has it's share of surprises, too. They come in the form of two very special guest appearances from none other than New Years Day banshee Ash Costello on their epic In The Mean Time and an ear-splittingly over-the-top contribution from Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe on Hosting the Shadow. [Indie store exclusive silver vinyl.]

The band's fifth studio album Automatic is being released in a music landscape that has become dominated by solo artists dependent on other writers. Schultz says being one of the few groups touring who write all their own material, is "a unique badge of honor." But that's not to say they won't collaborate with other artists; Schultz and Fraites have recently written and appeared on songs with pop icon P!nk, as well as rising singer-songwriters James Bay and Zach Bryan. [Indie store exclusive orchid & tangerine color vinyl.]
Mallrat - Light Hit My Face Like A Straight Right LP (Nettwork)
In Mallrat's (aka Grace Shaw's) vision of the world, light is more than photons and electromagnetic radiation hitting the eye it's a moment of divine intervention. A bold swerve into the metaphysical, this is the premise of the prized Brisbane-born, LA-based pop songwriter and producer's 2025 sophomore album: Light hit my face like a straight right. Set against a newly informed backdrop of expressive breakbeats and dance music, it's 12 songs explore the intangible and mysterious allure of human connection, held together by curious investigations into light "the closest thing to a concept this album has," Mallrat says. She reunited with Butterfly Blue producers Styalz Fuego (Troye Sivan, Tate McRae) and Alice Ivy, while bringing into the mix indie electronic producers Chrome Sparks and Casey MQ, whose music - made with French artist Oklou - Grace was listening to a lot at the time. Together, they puzzled out the misty, dance-fueled soundscape that branches out and evolves on her initial references. [Limited edition ‘ultra clear’ vinyl.]

Bill Henderson - Bill Henderson with the Oscar Peterson Trio LP (Verve)
Bill Henderson may not have been a household name among jazz singers, but this 1963 release raises a valid point that maybe he should have been. Of course, taking on this mix of standards with the Oscar Peterson Trio - including Ed Thigpen (drums) and Ray Brown (bass), certainly could make a lesser talent look better. But Henderson matches the group's ability and elevates classics like "All or Nothing At All," and "You Are My Sunshine" with his own point of view. Rusty Williams - Grand Man LP (Congrats)
Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams grew up surrounded by music, hearing her grandfather, Rusty Williams, play the piano or guitar with a hint of the Nashville Sound, inspiring her to pursue the art as well. He wrote and recorded a series of songs in the ‘70s that never saw the light of day—until now, with help from his granddaughter and her bandmate, Zac Farro. Rusty Williams is releasing his debut album, Grand Man, on Farro’s Congrats Records. According to a press release, her grandfather would often talk about the album, but she had never heard it. She and her bandmates didn’t even believe the record existed, but Rusty’s old production partner recently unearthed the old recordings. The question of what to do with the album had a simple answer. Recorded between 1972 and 1983.
