Peter One In-Store Performance, Album Signing & Record Release Celebration

  • Grimey's New and Preloved Music 1060 East Trinity Lane Nashville, TN, 37216 United States (map)

We hope you can join us on Friday, May 5th as we celebrate the release of Peter One’s new album, Come Back To Me , due out on vinyl & CD via Verve Forecast! He’ll be performing a short set in the record store and signing copies of his album for attendees. The next day he’s playing a headlining set at The Blue Room Bar at Third Man Records with local openers The Medium and J. Childers. (Stay tuned to our socials for a chance to enter to win tickets to the show.) Our event is free & all ages, so come one, come all!

Over 3 decades ago, Peter One was a star, a country music star, in West Africa, specifically. With his singing partner Jess Sah Bi, Peter played to sold out arenas. In 1985 the release of Our Garden Needs Its Flowers, launched the two Ivory Coast musicians into regional stardom across greater West Africa. Now working on his own, Peter One emigrated to the US to further his music career, eventually settling right here in Nashville where he’s worked as a nurse for twenty years.

His returns to the music scene with Come Back To Me, is ‘a unique blend of Afro-pop and 60s and 70s influenced country-folk soundtracks. The album was co-produced (alongside Peter One) and engineered by Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, John Prine) and features some of Nashville’s finest musicians including Pat Sansone (Wilco), Ken Coomer (Uncle Tupelo), Paul Niehaus (Calexico), and more.  The result is a heartfelt collection of folk songs sung in English, French and Guro, sharing tales of painful divorce, love and loss, as well as reflecting on concepts of the healing power of music, diaspora, immigration and home.

We are so excited to be able to celebrate the release of Come Back To Me with Peter One and all of you. You can preorder the album on our site now and we’ll have copies available for purchase at our event.

IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION! Our parking lot is shared with other rad businesses and it is a finite space, so parking is limited. In addition to our lot, there is an inexpensive paid parking lot behind Elegy Coffee and Mickey's on Gallatin Road that is a short walk from the shop. Please use EXTREME CAUTION if parking on the nearby, narrow neighborhood streets. Too many cars make these roads impassable and result in angry neighbors, the police being called, and cars being towed. (This is no fun at all.) If possible, please consider carpooling, ride-sharing, walking, biking, scooting, roller skating, or taking the bus to attend Peter One’s record release celebration.
