New Releases
David Allred - Beautiful World LP (Erased Tapes)
“Music written in dedication to everyone in need of inner healing. No matter how we feel or how different this looks from person to person, we are all exactly where we are supposed to be right now in our process of healing.” The 11 track album unfolds around Oh Lauren, providing the core of the album’s sentiment – how grief returns to us throughout life over and over. Embedded more than halfway through the album, Allred allows listeners to cohabit a meditative space through ambient textures, drones and ballads echoing the vocal sincerity of Arthur Russell, Daniel Johnston and the hypnotic storytelling of Robert Ashley. Allred’s gorgeous melodic sense creates its own universe where the album’s songs live and breathe. He also has an intuitive understanding of the space between each note, and how to manipulate their decay to create otherworldly harmonics which envelop the sonic tapestry.
Matt Berry - Heard Noises CD (Acid Jazz)
Matt Berry returns with his first new solo album since 2021's Blue Elephant. This time he delivers a Soul and West Coast Psych-inspired collection of songs, which attach an innate sense of melody to a lush, contemporary take on classic recording techniques. All of this is allied with Matt's rich voice and unique lyrics. [CD is in stock today, vinyl shipped late and is scheduled to arrive early next week.]

Mary Chapin Carpenter - Looking for the Thread CD/LP (Lambet Light Records)
The trio of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Julie Fowlis, and Karine Polwart first came together as a writing experiment coming out of the pandemic lockdown. With touring off the calendar, multi-award-winning US singer-songwriter Carpenter was looking for something new and reached out to Fowlis and Polwart, two highly acclaimed Scottish singer-songwriters whose work she had long admired. Prompted by admiration and respect for each other's work, the trio quickly came up with a plan and, once able, met in Northern Scotland for an extended writing retreat to see what magic could be made. The success of this initial experiment led to a second writing session and, in early 2024, the 10-song album Looking For The Thread was recorded at Real World Studios in Box, England, with Josh Kaufman (Bob Weir, The National, The Hold Steady) producing and a world-class band of musicians: Rob Burger (piano, organ, accordion, keys), Chris Vatalaro (drums, percussion), Cameron Ralston (bass), Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh (hardanger d'amore) and Josh Kaufman himself (guitar, keys). The album features tracks written by all three artists, who take turns performing and collaborating on each song.
Timothee Chalamet - A Complete Unknown OST LP (Columbia)
Featuring 16 tracks recorded live from the film like "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall," "Like A Rolling Stone," and "Girl From The North Country," the soundtrack includes performances from Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, and Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash. - Against the backdrop of a vibrant music scene and tumultuous cultural upheaval, an enigmatic 19-year-old from Minnesota arrives with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music. He forges intimate relationships with music icons of Greenwich Village on his meteoric rise, culminating in a groundbreaking and controversial performance that reverberates worldwide. Timothée Chalamet stars and sings as Bob Dylan in James Mangold's A COMPLETE UNKNOWN, the electric true story behind the rise of one of the most iconic singer-songwriters in history.
FKA Twigs - Eusexua CD/LP (Atlantic)
The third studio album by FKA Twigs. It is her first studio album in five years, following Magdalene (2019), and her first full body of work in over three years, following the mixtape Caprisongs (2022). Twigs’ most fully realized project to date, combining the experimentation and diversity of the mixtape with a more-focused approach and unquestionably the most impressive and versatile vocal performances of her career. In fact, it’s very surprising to learn that, with the exception of a feature from North West — yes, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s 11-year-old daughter, singing partially in Japanese, no less, on “Childlike Things” — and a couple of backing vocal spots, all of the singing on the album is her. While there’s plenty of her trademark breathy, ultra-high soprano, she shapeshifts her voice into all kinds of fascinating contortions and tones, many of which we haven’t heard from her before.
Flipturn - Burnout Days LP (Dualtone)
Burnout Days, the sophomore album finds Flipturn returning as sonic architects, harnessing their impressive knack for hooks, shimmering soundscapes and "nostalgia-inducing lyrical delivery" (Uproxx). But on Burnout Days, Flipturn arrives with more grit, craft and vulnerability than ever before - a clear evolution in the band's sound, and one that reflects their growth as musicians and individuals. Recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios near El Paso, Texas and produced by Chad Copelin (Wilderado, Sasha Sloan, BRONCHO), Burnout Days is inspired by the band's journey on the road, as they sort through challenges like self-esteem, codependency, addiction and the twists and turns of day-to-day life in one's mid-twenties. Together, they uncover the beauty that exists even in times of burnout through a mix of raw, rhythmic moments and sonic experimentation - all with a palpable sense of meticulousness and maturity.
Kokoroko - Get the Message LP (Brownswood)
Conceptualized as a project to hold fans over until their forthcoming second studio album due later this year, 'Get The Message' is a 4-track opus that positions the band in a more introspective and meditative space. Eschewing the brassy and exuberant sound of their previous work, the new EP notably beholds more of a minimalist slant. Gentler in mood, 'Get The Message' finds the band experimenting with new sonic territories via modes of psychedelic soul, Afro-rock, dub and funk. Sonically taking cues from the likes of Solange, Blood Orange, Sun Ra, Cymande and the 1970s Nigerian psych-rock band Ofege.
Larkin Poe - Bloom CD/LP (Tricki-Woo Records)
Larkin Poe, the dynamic sister duo known for their electrifying blend of Southern rock, blues, and Americana, emerges once again onto the musical landscape with their eagerly anticipated album, 'Bloom'. Following their Grammy-winning success with 'Blood Harmony' in 2024, the duo has ventured deeper into their musical journey, crafting a collection of songs that resonate with introspection, authenticity, and a profound connection to their roots in American music. The album "Bloom" marks a significant evolution in Larkin Poe's creative journey. All the songs were born from collaborations between Megan, Rebecca, and co-producer Tyler Bryant, reflecting a synergy that extends beyond mere musical partnership. As Rebecca observes, "'Bloom' is about finding oneself amidst the noise of the world, about wholeheartedly embracing the flaws and idiosyncrasies that make us real." This theme of self-acceptance is central to the album's narrative: celebrating individuality against a backdrop of contemporary blues and rock influences. [Indie store exclusive black splatter vinyl.]
John Mainlander’s Forecast - Let the World In LP (
With the third installment, Let the World In, John Mainlander’s Forecast offers a compelling exploration of time and connection, challenging us to view life not as a linear progression but as an ever-expanding continuum. The album unfolds like a lush, instrumental narrative, drawing listeners into vivid, almost cinematic landscapes—sunlight filtering through trees, warm tides rolling ashore, and the hum of unseen life beneath the soil. Without lyrics, the music invites listeners to craft their own stories, making each experience deeply personal and resonant.
Mogwai - The Bad Fire CD/LP/Cassette (Temporary Residence)
The arrival of a new Mogwai album - their eleventh - is cause for great celebration. The album's title, The Bad Fire, is a working-class Glaswegian term for Hell. It reflects the difficult time that members of the band were going through. New to the studio was American producer John Congleton, known for his work with Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Rós, John Grant and pretty much everyone in between. [Available on vinyl in a clear vinyl edition and a 3-LP opaque green vinyl set with includes a bonus disc of demos.]
Jessie Murph - That Ain’t No Man, That’s the Devil LP (Columbia)
The highly anticipated debut studio album from rising star and powerhouse vocalist Jessie Murph. The album features collaborations with Jelly Roll, Teddy Swims, and Koe Wetzel. The double album, Lucero Unplugged, presents 20 stripped down tracks that offer fresh takes on the band's exceptional catalogue.
Rose City Band - Sol Y Sombra LP (Thrill Jockey)
Rose City Band’s music is sun-kissed timeless country rock whose seemingly effortless momentum carries the joy of its creation without ignoring the darkness pervading our consciousness. Led by guitarist/vocalist Ripley Johnson, the music of Rose City Band is rooted in his love of private press records of the mid to late 70’s. The band, in addition to Johnson, features pedal steel guitarist Barry Walker, keyboardist Paul Hasenberg and drummer John Jeffrey who enmesh a keen sense of rhythmic drive and melody with gentler, sumptuous atmospheres. Sol Y Sombra digs its heels into insatiable grooves, its parade of catchy songs conjuring a sunset drive through an open desert, both a celebration of a sojourn and a reach for the warmth of home. [Indie store exclusive coke bottle clear vinyl.]
Teddy Swims - I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2) CD/LP (Warner Records)
"I've Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2)" is the second part of Teddy Swims' debut album. Eva Cassidy - Walkin’ After Midnight LP (Blix Street)
Eva Cassidy's Walkin' After Midnight collection is literally a ticket back to Eva's accidental Western Swing Night. A small gig at the King of France Tavern, downtown Annapolis. The 2nd of November, 1995, two months prior to her now famous Live At Blues Alley recordings. When two of Eva' s usual four band mates were unavailable, she improvised via an impromptu invite to musician friend Bruno Nasta. Proving the old adage, less can be more, the resulting violin/ lead guitar/bass combo, together with Eva's acoustic guitar, created a serendipitous alternate context for some of Eva's most popular repertoire. Dancing in the space opened up by the absence of additional instruments, Eva's vocals are as joyous and free as any previously heard. [Limited edition red vinyl.]
The Clean - Modern Rock LP (Merge)
The Clean - Late Last Night b/w Psychedelic Clown 45 (Merge)
Modern Rock crackles with spontaneous energy, as if The Clean-namely, Hamish Kilgour, David Kilgour, and Robert Scott-couldn't help but make music together whenever they were in the same room. Following their 1989 reunion tour and the 1990 release of Vehicle, those opportunities were rare, with Hamish in New York City fronting The Mad Scene, David releasing his first solo album, and Robert recording albums with The Bats at a breakneck pace. Then, for nine days in April 1994, the stars aligned over Dunedin and Modern Rock bloomed into life. It's an album of easy charm by a band so attuned to guitar pop that they make the creation of their sonic universe seem easy, as if what you're being let in on is a long-running conversation between three masters at a point where all three are riffing off of each other, line by line and hook by hook. Significantly, after making Modern Rock, The Clean decided to keep the project going on a part-time basis. More than just a reminder to listeners of the reverence fans and musicians had for The Clean, each new record was a welcome surprise that established them as one of the great active bands of the 1990s and 2000s, their second act on par with the many, many groups their first act inspired. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Modern Rock and "Late Last Night," both releases have been remastered from the original tapes by producer and engineer Tex Houston and preserve Hamish Kilgour's original artwork. The reissues offer new and old fans of The Clean alike an opportunity to hear the band at a creative zenith, shining light on an era that, until now, has been the provenance of crate diggers and completionists. Spinning it now, it's clear why the album has maintained it's appeal for 30 years: Modern Rock is timeless, and so are The Clean.

Rochelle Jordan - 1021 2xLP (Rochelle Jordan)
1021 is the third studio album from Toronto singer/songwriter, Rochelle Jordan. Originally released in 2014, 1021 is the album that forever changed Rochelle's trajectory as an artist. Filled with moments of honest and pure self expression yet still showing signs of who she has eventually become, the album showcases Rochelle's resilience as an indie artist, her unapologetic risk taking, and her drive and uncompromising belief in herself. The album's production is filled with lush, airy, evocative beats, with her vocals drawing comparison to the iconic R&B superstar, Aaliyah - in fact, "Ease Your Mind, " was co-produced with Eric Seats, who produced the iconic Aaliyah track, "Rock the Boat." Since then, Rochelle has gone on to become a major player in the R&B and dance spaces, most recently working with Kaytranada on his new album.
