New Releases

Aesop Rock – Spirit World Field Guide Instrumentals 2xLP (Rhymesayers)

Green & blue color vinyl pressing. Following the success of Aesop Rock's most recent solo album, Spirit World Field Guide, he returns to deliver the instrumental version of those interdimensional adventures. Aesop has long been celebrated for his talents as a lyricist, but he has continually grown and evolved as a producer as well. While the original Spirit World album was packed with insightful chapters of firsthand know-how into the terrain, wildlife, and social customs of our parallel universe, the Spirit World Field Guide Instrumentals not only set the tone but also provide the roadmap for you to take your own journey.

Bruno Bavota & Chantal Acda – A Closer Distance LP+MP3 (Temporary Residence)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. When Italian composer Bruno Bavota and Dutch songwriter Chantal Acda first met several years ago, they knew almost instantly that they wanted to make music together. Bavota was already a fan of Acda's dreamy, orchestral folk, and in Bavota's intimate, picturesque piano compositions, Acda saw a potential for collaboration that was begging to be explored. Spawned from the opening piano phrase that became the album's title track, the nine songs that make up A Closer Distance were written and recorded by Bavota and Acda in their respective homes. [Limited edition translucent purple vinyl.]

Beacon – Along The Lethe LP (Apparent Movement)

Beacon's fourth full-length record following 2018's Gravity Pairs. The Lethe is one of the five rivers of the underworld in Greek mythology. The newly dead who drank from its waters lost all memory of their earthly lives. Composed and produced largely in quarantine, Along The Lethe is an album as much about the allure of forgetting tragedy as it is the need to maintain our connections to the past. [Limited edition maroon vinyl.]

Sam Bush - Radio John: Songs of John Hartford CD (Smithsonian Folkways)

Radio John: Songs of John Hartford is Sam Bush's heartfelt tribute to his hero and mentor, John Hartford. With dedication, admiration, and love, Bush takes on personal favorites from Hartford's vast catalog, including songs he played with Hartford on stage and in the studio in the 1970s. Bush plays every instrument on nearly every cut, pouring himself into the performances. Radio John is a testament to the impact Hartford had on American traditional music as a songwriter, an instrumentalist, and, most importantly, someone who fostered the careers of musicians like Bush and countless others reinventing roots music in the last half of the 20th century.

Butcher Brown – Butcher Brown Presents Triple Play LP+7” (Concord)

Butcher Brown Presents Triple Trey featuring Tennishu and R4ND4ZZO BIGB4ND, deconstructs big band jazz and reshapes it in the band's eclectic image. The album sounds nothing like your grandparents' 45s. Randazzo adapted Tennishu's rap beats for Butcher Brown and ten other Richmond musicians, turning them into bold suites. Tennishu finds new pockets of rhyme amidst party-starting originals, while the ensemble delivers a blend of contemporary genre-smashing injected into the past. [Indie exclusive blue vinyl + 7”}

Christine and The Queens – Redcar Les Adorable Etoiles CD/LP (Because Music)

Redcar is only the beginning. This is all an opera. It will take some time to unveil, the same way it is unveiling to Redcar, as he acknowledges his crazy freedom. Angels and stars, the sovereign verb, the heart at its center. Redcar is not there to affirm anything but the need to say who we are and what we pray for every day.

Delta Spirit – One Is One LP (New West)

Indie store exclusive red w/ white & teal color pressing. Delta Spirit has been making music for nearly 17 years and with five albums under their belt, they return with the follow up record to 2020's What Is There. One Is One was recorded in southern Vermont and mixed in Texas by Matt Pence (Jason Isbell, Nikki Lane, Paul Cauthen). The album has a distinctly anthemic quality with songs like "Villians", "One Is One", and "What's Done is Done" inducing goosebumps upon the first listen. Other tracks like "Lottery", "Ghost Of Caddo", and "Thoughts On Seneca" are more quiet in sound and song structure but deliver heavy lyrical messages that capture the listener's attention. One Is One is equally made for the headphones and the live concert experience.

Domi & JD Beck – Not Tight LP (Apeshit Inc./Blue Note)

Released in July on CD – now available on vinyl. Domi & JD Beck release their highly anticipated debut album Not Tight on Anderson.Paak's new label, Apeshit Inc. in partnership with Blue Note Records. Featuring special guests Anderson.Paak, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, Mac DeMarco, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, Not Tight exemplifies their trailblazing take on jazz. The New York Times hailed them as simultaneously "freakishly complex and virtuosic" and "relentlessly melodic."

Dropkick Murphys – This Machine Still Kills Fascists LP (Dummy Luck)

Indie store exclusive clear vinyl pressing. Dropkick Murphys history with Woody Guthrie dates back decades, from covering "Gonna Be A Blackout Tonight" on their 2003 album Blackout, to using some of Guthrie's writing about Boston in their immortal hit "I'm Shipping Up To Boston". But on their latest album, This Machine Still Kills Fascists, Dropkick Murphys has crafted an entire record around the seminal American folk icon, bringing Woody Guthrie's perennial jabs at life-many of which are from the 1940s and '50s-into the present, with the resulting music eerily relevant to today's world.

Frankie and The Witch Fingers – Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters LP (Greenway)

Bubbling up from the psychedelic tar pits of L.A., Frankie and The Witch Fingers has been a constant source of primordial groove for the better part of the last decade. Formed and incubated in Bloomington, IN before moving west to scrap with Los Angeles' garage rock rabble, the band evolved from cavern-clawed echo merchants to architects of prog-infected psych epics that evoke a reality shift. [Limited edition ‘cosmic snot’ color vinyl.]

Bill Frisell – Four 2xLP (Blue Note)

Bill Frisell convenes a new line-up of musical friends on his third Blue Note album, Four, which features the acclaimed guitarist with Gregory Tardy on saxophone and clarinet, Gerald Clayton on piano, and Johnathan Blake on drums. Together, the foursome delves into intimate explorations of thirteen Frisell originals (both old and new) to create this stunning new work that is a meditation on loss, renewal, and friendship.

Robert Haigh – Human Remains LP (Unseen Worlds)

Released in July on CD – now available on vinyl. Human Remains follows Creatures Of The Deep and Black Sarabande as the final installment of a trilogy of piano based recordings by Robert Haigh for Unseen Worlds. The trilogy marks the end of the late era of solo albums by Haigh before he steps away from music production. The title, Human Remains, was initially based on a painting of the same name by Haigh that is suggestive of an ancient structure resolute in the wake of overwhelming forces. As a metaphor for our current times, it could be interpreted as human frailty in the face of nature's unyielding dominion. Conversely, it could represent the persistence of human spirit and resourcefulness amidst catastrophe and upheaval.

Grace Ives – Janky Star LP (Harvest)

Released in June on CD – now available on vinyl. Janky Star is the new album from pop-polymath Grace Ives, following 2019's critically acclaimed debut, 2nd. The 10 tracks are full of punchy synths and unconventional rhythms, but she uses the quiet spaces in between to honestly reflect on her ongoing struggle to find stability and happiness. Touching on sobriety, overdoses, and the desire to escape the realities of modern life, Janky Star focuses on the rewards of slowing down and finally finding a home for herself in the ever-shifting world.

Larkin Poe – Blood Harmony CD/LP (Tricki-Woo)

Blood Harmony affirms Larkin Poe as an essential force in shaping the identity of Southern rock ‘n’ roll, breathing new energy into the genre with both forward-thinking perspective and feminine strength. [Indie store exclusive red vinyl.]

L.S. Dunes – Past Lives LP (Concord)

Unshackled from the expectations and aesthetics of their already successful careers, L.S. Dunes super-charge their heavy anthems on Past Lives with punk energy into a sound unlike anything that has come before it. From the gripping, theatrical opener "2022", and the crunchy, frenetic earworm "Like Forever", to the pummeling, expansive "Permanent Rebellion", and the disarming album closer, "Sleep Cult", Past Lives is an electrifying and emotional ride. Past Lives was produced by Will Yip (Turnstile, Circa Survive, Quicksand) and recorded at his Studio 4 Recording in Philadelphia, PA. Going deep on issues of fearlessness, dependency, nonconformity, and impermanence, writing for the album was a collaborative effort. [Limited edition orange vinyl.]

Manchester Orchestra – Christmas Songs Vol. 1 LP (Loma Vista)

Limited 'Blue Christmas' color vinyl pressing. A collection of holiday classics reimagined earnestly and passionately by beloved indie rock stalwarts Manchester Orchestra. Familiar, inclusive, and the essence of holiday spirit, regardless of one's beliefs.

Ashley McBryde – Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville LP (Warner Nashville)

Ashley McBryde set out with a group of her favorite collaborators to work up a project they had no intention of ever recording or releasing. What came from that weeklong songwriting exercise in a rural cabin outside Nashville is Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville, a distilled version of everything that listeners have come to appreciate from McBryde: raw, honest, specific portraits of small-town America, and the many characters that you may encounter in any one of them. [This title shipped late and will arrive early next week.]

Cass McCombs – Vacation From Thought b/w Give It Back 7” (Wharf Cat)

Recorded to tape with few overdubs by Philip Weinrobe (Adrienne Lenker, Florist) and mastered by Carl Saff, the record achieves a warm, hard-hitting sound that is perfectly suited to the 7" format. Advance single, "Vacation From Thought" written and sung by McCombs, features a driving motorik drum beat from Tran, ripping guitar figures from legend, Mike Bones, and precision backing vocals and bass work from Sasha Vine who keeps pace with Cass as they take the listener on a trip to witness yet unseen birds, primordial "red-clay mud" and much more. The B-side is the Weak Signal written, and Mike Bones sung "Give It Back", a devotional love song with a scorching guitar riff that will get stuck in your head for days.

Norma Jean – Deathrattle Sing For Me 2xLP (Solid State)

Released in August on CD – now available on vinyl, including an indie store exclusive pressing. Norma Jean invites an intense level of intimacy on Deathrattle Sing For Me, their ninth full-length. The group plunges into unparalleled emotional depths, as if their very existence depended upon the catharsis these 13 tracks promised.

Nueen - Diagrams of Thought LP (Balmat)

Barcelona-based artist Nueen has been developing his highly personal style of blissfully Balearic ambient over the past few years, with releases on labels like Quiet Time Tapes and Good Morning Tapes. On Diagrams of Thought, the atmospheres remain bucolic, but there's a disturbance at work, a hint of uncertainty swirling beneath seemingly placid pads. While Diagrams of Thought retains the ambient (or at least ambient-adjacent) focus of all Balmat's releases so far, the album also marks new frontiers for the label; the album's first half is graceful and largely beatless, but the mood grows murkier with the foggy drones of "Dome" and the intimations of liquid drum 'n' bass on "Maxima"; "Veta," meanwhile, might just represent the most forceful rhythm to appear on a Balmat release yet.

Bobby Oroza – Get On The Otherside Instrumentals LP (Big Crown)

Green color vinyl pressing. Bobby Oroza and Cold Diamond & Mink treat us to the instrumental version of their latest album Get On The Otherside.

Sleep Party People – Heap Of Ashes CD/LP (Joyful Noise)

Sleep Party People's Brian Batz dives into the darker edges of orchestral pop on new album Heap Of Ashes. Influenced by primarily Bulgarian choral music, old-school metal, and 21st century experimental composition, the music of Sleep Party People exposes every facet, every moment, and every wound, finding beauty even when the last glow of hope looks like it's ready to fade into the ashes. [Limited-edition blood red vinyl.]

Smut – How The Light Felt CD/LP/Cassette (Bayonet)

Smut shines a spotlight on the sounds of the ‘90s across genres - a record scratch, a spacey synth line, a breakcore beat - all while maintaining freshness and originality. [Limited-edition translucent orange vinyl.]

Soyuz – Force Of The Wind LP (Mr. Bongo)

Some records just stop you in your tracks. They resonate with you and feel instantly familiar like an old friend, even on the first listen. Soyuz's third album Force Of The Wind is one of those records. It holds all the trademarks, beauty, and eccentricities of classic Brazilian recordings from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Force Of The Wind is an enigma, Brazilian yet not Brazilian, vintage yet still contemporary, out of sync with modern culture yet completely relevant and necessary. [Indie store exclusive clear vinyl.]

Bruce Springsteen – Only The Strong Survive CD/2xLP (Columbia)

“Bruce Springsteen's new studio album Only The Strong Survive celebrates soul music gems from the legendary catalogues of Motown, Gamble and Huff, Stax and many more. The Boss' twenty-first studio effort also features guest vocals by Sam Moore, as well as contributions from The E Street Horns, full string arrangements by Rob Mathes, and backing vocals by Soozie Tyrell, Lisa Lowell, Michelle Moore, Curtis King Jr., Dennis Collins and Fonzi Thornton. Springsteen commented: "I wanted to make an album where I just sang. And what better music to work with than the great American songbook of the ‘60s and ‘70s? I've taken my inspiration from Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin, Jimmy Ruffin, the Iceman Jerry Butler, Diana Ross, Dobie Gray, and Scott Walker, among many others.” [Indie store exclusive ‘orbit orange’ vinyl.]

Chris Stapleton - I'm A Ram 7" (Mercury Nashville)

Limited edition, indie exclusive 7” single with Stapleton’s never before released song “I’m A Ram”, currently featured in a national TV campaign for Ram Trucks. Available in the shop and in the Grimey's webstore.

Lindsey Stirling – Snow Waltz LP (Concord)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Award-winning pop-violinist Lindsey Stirling releases her new Christmas album Snow Waltz. Featuring eight classic covers and five original tracks, Snow Waltz delivers Stirling’s immersive arrangements and mesmerizing melodies but with a seasonal twist, featuring songs that promise to be the perfect soundtrack for the holiday season. “I wanted to give the songs a whimsical, pixie-like feeling that’s quintessentially me,” says Stirling about the new record. “It’s always a challenge to put your own stamp on a classic song that’s been recorded hundreds of times, and I really loved experimenting with different approaches and making sure that every song felt completely unique to who I am as an artist.” [Limited-edition ‘snowball smoke’ color vinyl.]

Hagop Tchaparian - Bolts LP (Text)

Debut album from the British-Armenian producer. Hagop's debut album Bolts features ten tracks of hyper-personal rhythm music that mixes techno with field recordings of his travels through Armenian and Mediterranean culture. Hagop's been gathering these sounds and vignettes for almost 15 years, resulting in the sound of a man chasing his heritage around the world, while sprinkling clues of his everyday life amidst the manipulated folk instruments of his ancestry. From its title down to the incessant bleating of the zurna, "Right to Riot" is like punk techno crying out for the disaffected, while "Timelapse", which features a loop of the music that accompanies the fire-jumping wedding ritual, sews together what seem like connected images in a photo album that may be physically decomposing, but whose power remains.

Louis Tomlinson – Faith In The Future LP (BMG)

Louis Tomlinson triumphantly returns with his first new music since the release of his debut solo album Walls in 2020. Written by Tomlinson, Rob Harvey, and Red Triangle, and produced by Mike Crossey (The 1975, Wolf Alice), introductory single "Bigger Than Me" is an impassioned pop song with a gargantuan and emotional chorus. "It was my first moment of excitement making this record, and where it felt we were on to something which honors the live show," Louis says. Faith In The Future features further collaborations with the likes of Dan Grech (The Killers, The Vaccines, Halsey), Nico Rebscher (Alice Merton), Joe Cross (Courteeners), and Hurts frontman Theo Hutchcraft. While recording the album, Tomlinson had a core aim: to produce a collection of songs befitting an anthemic live show - a task he's risen to with aplomb. [Indie store exclusive black with red vinyl.]

Sharon Van Etten – We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong 2xLP+MP3 (Jagjaguwar)

Deluxe vinyl edition expanded with four bonus tracks. Includes handwritten etching on Side D. Package includes trifold jacket and poster. Sharon Van Etten has always been the kind of artist who helps people make sense of the world around them, and her sixth album, We've Been Going About This All Wrong, concerns itself with how we feel, mourn, and reclaim our agency when we think the world - or at least, our world - might be falling apart.

Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek - Dost 2xLP (Les Disques Bongo Joe)

The eight-track followup to 2021's acclaimed Dost 1 sees Turkish singer, bağlama player and multi-instrumentalist Derya Yıldırım and her international band of brothers and sisters continuing their psychedelic journey, meandering through Anatolian folk music and poetry with their electrifying grooves. Graham Mushnik (organ, synthesizers, and clavinet player) and Antonin Voyant (guitar, bass, and flute) are both members of London/France-based collective Catapulte Records and played in l'Orchestre du Montplaisant, a quartet known for its cinematic, retro atmospheres -- a clear influence on Grup Şimsek's sprawling, vintage-tinged compositions. The band marries 1960s and '70s Anatolian influences with a contemporary approach to composition and rhythm, thanks in large part to the contribution of drummer, percussionist, composer, and marimba player Greta Eacott.

Various Artists – Live Forever: A Tribute To Billy Joe Shaver CD/LP (New West)

Billy Joe's influence on some of the greatest of artists is what inspired this project. Now, with Live Forever: A Tribute To Billy Joe Shaver, a whole new batch of artists and songwriters are taking their cut at one of the greatest songwriting catalogs of all time. This album is a testament to Billy Joe's words and the deep impact they had on so many wonderful songwriters and performers. [Indie store exclusive diamond color vinyl.]

Alice Coltrane – Ptah The El Daoud [Reissue/1970] LP (Verve)

Limited 180gm vinyl pressing. Recorded in the basement studio of the Coltrane family home in Dix Hills in 1970, Alice Coltrane's fourth album is a transcendent masterpiece of spiritual jazz. The title track is an ode to the Egyptian God, Ptah (the El Daoud meaning "the beloved"). Many moments on the album reach what Coltrane herself defined the term Turiya as: "a state of consciousness - the high state of Nirvana, the goal of human life." Part of Verve’s By Request Series featuring 180gm vinyl pressed at Third Man in Detroit.

Deer Tick – Divine Providence [Reissue/2011] 3xLP (Partisan)

Divine Providence is the fourth album from Deer Tick and a pivotal moment for the band. With a couple lineup changes over the years, they started to speed things up a bit here; not that they shed their blues-tinged country rock sound entirely, but the album has an even split of fast stompers and mid-tempo country bar howls. The original 12 songs on the album are about as close as you can get to a beer drenched show with the band; the addition of the five songs from the Tim EP and the 12 bonus tracks of alternate versions, outtakes and rarities make for a close encounter with a lost weekend with the band.

Dummy - Dumb EPs LP (Sonic Cathedral)

LA five-piece Dummy follow 2021's acclaimed debut album Mandatory Enjoyment (released by Trouble In Mind) and their 2022 single for Sub Pop with Dumb EPs, a compilation of their first two EPs from 2020, remastered especially for vinyl by Simon Scott from Slowdive. On EP1, experimental noise and ambient soundscapes intertwine with hypnotic drone-pop and avant-folk. EP2 features a mix of screeching feedback-laden pop songs woven with non-sequitur ambient soundscapes, finding the band further developing their drone-pop style with inspiration taken from kosmische, Japanese ambient, new age, and video game music.Translucent green vinyl. "Dummy has all the makings of a modern cult band" --Pitchfork. "Like a scrappy, punch-drunk Stereolab or a blissed out, mantra-hypnotized Wire" --Aquarium Drunkard

With the massive success of GN'R Lies and Appetite For Destruction, the band had the daunting task of a follow up album. Not only did the band deliver, Guns N' Roses surprised the world by releasing not one but two new, full-length studio albums. Now digitally remastered, Use Your Illusion I and II are available in Regular, Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions. The Deluxe double-CD editions add bonus live tracks. The Use Your Illusion: Super Deluxe CD and vinyl box sets feature 97 songs, 63 of which are unreleased audio and video tracks, as well a hi-res 96k/24-bit master from the original ½” master tapes on Blu-ray audio. Stand-alone (Regular) CD and vinyl editions are also available.

Langston Hughes – Writers Of The Revolution [Reissue/1970] LP (Motown)

Black Forum Records was created in 1970 as part of Motown's ambition to preserve those non-musical voices and protestors of the Civil Rights Era. On this recording, poets Langston Hughes and Margaret Danner read selections from their work and casually reflect together about their craft. Both poets are celebrated here, on this rare record, for their contribution to Black American causes and American letters. An astounding legacy preserved.

Charile Hunter – Bing Bing Bing! [Reissue/1995] 2xLP (Blue Note)

Charlie Hunter's 1995 Blue Note debut Bing Bing Bing! was a groove-heavy tour-de-force that announced the arrival of a virtuosic new guitarist on the scene. Hunter's unique concept on his 8-string guitar allowed him to lay down a bass line and play chords as well as a melodic line at the same time, producing music that was at once impressive and irrepressible. With his powerful trio featuring tenor saxophonist Dave Ellis and drummer Jay Lane plus contributions from trombonist Jeff Cressman, Ben Goldberg, pedal steel guitarist David Phillips, and percussionist Scott Roberts, Hunter delivered a 10-song set of propulsive originals. Part of Blue Note’s Classic Vinyl Edition series featuring all-analog mastering by Kevin Gray.

Isabella - Melody Depleted 2xLP (iDEAL Recordings)

2020 release. Boston's Isabella Koen delivers her long-in-the-making debut album of raving mutant body music, trance riffs, and industrial synth topographies forged with raw and brooding industrial sound design that marks her out among N. America's most interesting new producers of electronic music. Big tip if yr into Jasss, Helena Hauff, Gesloten Cirkel, AFX... Spanning proper techno artillery, trance riffs, and noise excursions, Melody Depleted serves a broad but singular showcase of Koen's ability to generate club punishing rhythms, barely-tamed electronic noise and surprisingly sensitive ambient space probes that revel in electronic music's capacity to evoke fine spectra of technoid feelings with a say it-without-saying-it instrumental finesse. In an emotive arc that takes in crude, rush-y rave futurism ("I'm Laughing") through to dark, bolshy industrial tekkers ("The Harm That I Dream For You") and an outstanding nine minute finale of deep distance ambient hypnagogia ("Hypnic Jerk"), Isabella's first album most deftly transposes a sense of pre-Millennial late '90s techno warehouse dread into a world dealing with its own register of worries.

Jamiroquai – Dynamite [Reissue/2005] 2xLP (Sony Legacy)

Jamiroquai's sixth studio album is back in-print on vinyl housed in a gatefold jacket with silver foil elements.

Mickie Yoshino & Godiego - House (Hausu) O.S.T. LP (Light in the Attic)

HOUSE, also known as HAUSU, is a 1977 experimental Japanese Horror film written and directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi. The soundtrack to HOUSE features original music by Asei Kobayashi, Mickie Yoshino, and Yoshino’s Japanese rock band, Godiego. The now classic soundtrack effectively lures you into a false sense of security. Beginning with upbeat pop-sing-a-longs and jovial tracks such as “Buggie Boogie” and “Cherries Were Made For Eating”, the soundtrack slowly transforms into a dark sonic landscape of chaos and psychedelia. Fusing elements of funk, jazz, rock, and romantic ballads, the soundtrack captures the absurd and whimsical nature that is HOUSE, contrasted with its experimental scenes of horror and madness. Pink swirl vinyl. First ever vinyl reissue outside of Japan.
