Jon Batiste – Beethoven Blues (Batiste Piano Series, Vol. 1) CD/LP (Verve)

5x Grammy and Oscar-winner Jon Batiste returns with a pure piano album, Beethoven Blues (Batiste Piano Series, Vol. 1). Reimagining the transcendent works of Ludwig van Beethoven, alongside original compositions inspired by Batiste's youth competing in local piano competitions and gigging in the heart of New Orleans, the album extends timeless classics across the genre spectrum. It is a way of paying homage to Beethoven's artistry and bringing it into a singular moment, in true creative partnership with Batiste's artistic work and journey.

Mary J. Blige, the "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul," has been an overwhelming presence in the R&B scene. Her songs, her sound, her attitude, and her way of life - her entire existence has earned her the respect of fans and artists and has had a major impact on the scene. She has completed her new album, Gratitude which expresses her gratitude to her fans and her presence here now.

BoyWithUke – Burnout CD/LP (Boywithuke LLC)

Burnout is a product of roughly a year of the now 22-year-old BoyWithUke evolving his sound, his live show, and his own work-life balance. Charley Yang has been going through many changes in his life while being BoyWithUke, from getting out of his first long term relationship of 4 years, to getting out of a major label deal. “For the longest time I had made songs to impress this person I was in love with as well as music executives, and once that was gone things felt weird. I felt a little bit lost, but in a larger and more positive way, I felt free with freedom to make mistakes and basically whatever I wanted–I think that’s what Burnout is,” Yang explains. With this freedom now to lean into the music he wants to put out into the world comes with the pressure of the unknown which fed into his unhealthy strive for perfection. But the fact that he's actually trying is giving him a peace that he hasn't felt before—a peace he hopes for all of his fans. With that comes Burnout

Brooks & Dunn – Reboot II CD/2xLP (SME Nashville)

Featuring 18 Brooks & Dunn classics recreated from a blank slate, maximum creative freedom was given to a select group of today's most engaging artists - not just from country, but from outside the genre as well. Each was given a near-impossible task by Brooks & Dunn themselves: Take an iconic hit and reimagine the song to fit their own taste and style. What came out is not a traditional tribute album - in fact it's the exact opposite, a clear refusal to put these songs under glass in the museum of country history. Instead, it shows just how alive Brooks & Dunn's influence is across today's musical scene... and how versatile their songwriting really was.

Luke Bryan – Mind Of A Country Boy LP (Capitol Nashville)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Five-time Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan is releasing a brand-new album, Mind of a Country Boy, featuring 14 tracks including his latest single, “Love you, Miss you, Mean It.”

Johnny Coley – Mister Sweet Whisper LP (Mississippi)

Transcendental poetry meets Southern Nightmare Jazz on the third album by Alabama-based artist Johnny Coley. Tapping into French surrealism and transgressive American poets such as John Ashbery, the songs in Mister Sweet Whisper evolve, cinema-like, with Coley as an uninhibited, almost mystical, narrator. Textural, jazz-like playing complements Coley's decadent landscapes, which glide by like cigarette-inspired invocations. Echoing, and at times, dissonant notes of saxophone, crystalline tones of vibraphone, and jagged guitar arrangements punctuate Coley's dreamlike visions, populated by ballet dancers, haunting nightclubs, and ghostly car drivers.

The Coward Brothers – The Coward Brothers CD/LP (New West)

The Coward Brothers are Elvis Costello and T-Bone Burnett. The exact relationship between Henry (T-Bone Burnett) and Howard Coward (Elvis Costello) remains ambiguous. They often referred to themselves as "One and a Half Brothers," which might hint at their height difference or imply they were not actually siblings but were involved in an elaborate ruse. Their musical partnership, known as The Coward Brothers, was initiated by Smiley "Doc" Snipson, who discovered Henry Coward in 1956 and signed him for a UK tour… Their music, from early rock and roll hits to later, more introspective songs, is compiled in the album, The Coward Brothers. After years of silence, their story was explored in a radio program, revealing the complexity of their relationship and their enduring bond. Despite their tumultuous history, their music remains a testament to their unyielding spirit. [Indie store exclusive licorice red vinyl.]

Cyn – Valley Girl LP (Capitol)

Valley Girl is the debut album from Cyn, the singer-songwriter discovered and signed by superstar Katy Perry to her Unsub Records label. Valley Girl features the U.S. Top 40 radio hit, "Drinks," as well as 11 new tracks of witty, clever and emotional pop perfection. Baby pink/spring green colorway.

Kyle Daniel – Kentucky Gold LP (Snakefarm)

Firing twin barrels of classic southern rock and modern country, Kyle Daniel makes blue collar music for rock clubs, honky-tonks and everywhere in between.

David Edren - Binnenin LP (Black Sweat Records)

Probably in another life David Edren (aka DSR Lines) was a visionary biologist or chemist. In this new sound adventure, he becomes the narrator of anatomical and cellular symphonies, catharsis of invisible biochemical processes, painting the micro-dimensional flows of the subtle body or imaginary geographies of hidden micro-bodies. Here, his organic electronic music is enriched with new lymphs that also vaguely recall the influences of non-European music, especially Chinese and Japanese music (stick and chimes percussions) in an intimate and twilight dimension, poised between exotic ambient and cinematic suggestions. A militaristic description of liquid currents, labyrinthine veins, weaving streams, molecules and particles in multi-orbital dances, muscular chords, drowning bubbles, light waves; all in a confident compositional overview that is absolutely unique and fascinating.

Fazerdaze – Soft Power LP (Partisan)

Soft Power is the sophomore album from New Zealand's Fazerdaze (Amelia Murray). Rooted in fierce self-compassion and strength, it channels the sizzling, atmospheric feeling of sunset festival sets. These songs are cinematic earworms built for singing out loud and losing yourself. Combining synths and electronic beats with old-school rock, Soft Power crafts a brilliant world that thrums with human, organic grit but is capable of spinning off into flights of hooky pop fantasy. Available on silver color vinyl.

Flo – Access All Areas CD/LP (Republic)

Introducing Flo's debut album: Access All Areas. A body of work imbued with Flo's unapologetic, contagious force. Blending the rich tones and luscious melodies of R&B and soul with futuristic production, contagious hooks and candid, relatable lyricism, the project is an iconic milestone for the group. [Limited edition clear vinyl.]

Andrew Gabbard – Ramble & Rave On! CD/LP (Karma Chief)

Andrew's third solo LP Ramble & Rave On! sounds like the kind of weathered tattoo you'd see etched on a barfly's forearm as he slams another drink in a dive. Like its title, the record feels like something that's always been around; a trusty mixtape that everyone can agree on. Andrew comes to this collection of songs with something that very much feels like a 'studio' record, the kind of album a ‘60s rock star feels like they've built the confidence to make, to shake off a rawness for something fuller and more realized. [Limited edition clear with black swirl color vinyl.]

GLOK & Timothy Clerkin - Alliance LP (Bytes)

Ride's Andy Bell, recording under his electronic alter ego GLOK, and the producer and Insult to Injury label boss Timothy Clerkin have joined forces for Alliance, a brand new seven-track album released by Bytes. The collaboration finds Andy and Tim with their freak flags flying, working in a freewheeling environment where nothing was off limits, with influences ranging from Death in Vegas and Boards of Canada to James Holden and New Order. For Fans Of: Death in Vegas, RIDE, Andrew Weatherall, Boards of Canada, Happy Mondays, James Holden, New Order. Featuring vocals on one track from Du Blonde aka Beth Jeans Houghton. Limited edition white vinyl.

Warren Haynes – Million Voices Whisper 2xLP (Fantasy)

[Indie store exclusive canary yellow vinyl.]

Heart To Gold – Free To Help LP (Memory Music/Run For Cover)

Free Help is Minnesota trio Heart to Gold's celebration of the titular idea, conceived while broken down on the side of a road in Georgia. Recorded at Will Yip's Studio 4 and releasing on Memory Music, it's an expertly arranged, arena-sized rendering of the group's scrappy, bold guitar rock, a heartening mix of melodic punk, cavernous post-hardcore, and '90s alt-rock. It's the sound and feeling of a band growing into adulthood and maturity - singer Grant Whiteoak's writing is subtle and figurative, a result of deepening introspection spurred by years of touring.

Homer – Ensatina CD/LP/Cassette (Big Crown)

Homer Steinweiss has an incredibly storied career in music that started when he was just a teenager. He's drummed for nearly every retro soul group that mattered and his distinctive stickwork helped blend the raw-but-receptive soul sound back into the mainstream via the likes of Amy Winehouse & Sharon Jones. He's now one of the most in demand drummers in the world, playing with Jonas Brothers, Clairo, Solange, Adele, and Bruno Mars to name a few. With his debut solo release Ensatina, Homer is stepping to the forefront as both musician and producer. [Indie store exclusive orange vinyl.]

Linkin Park – From Zero CD/LP/Cassette (WB)

“Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we're currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future-embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited about the journey ahead.” [An indie store exclusive translucent magenta color vinyl pressing is available.]

As his 5th studio album, it is Shawn at his most intimate and honest. [A translucent white color vinyl pressing is available.]

Mount Eerie - Night Palace LP (P.W. Elverum & Sun)

Night Palace appears as a culmination of eras, arrived at after tumbling through decades of a tumultuous life and building from scratch in the settled dust. The 26 track album is a palace of many rooms, all welcoming, all varied. The songs stand vivid in their diamond sharp eloquence and distorted feedback, but only after traveling the album as a whole do we find the door. The palace is dilapidated with moss dripping through, airy, bright and open. This is a return to the beloved deep analog fuzz world of the Microphones' the Glow pt. 2 (2001) and the many thickly embroidered Mount Eerie universes that have followed. Smashed tape, breathing air organs, crackling tube amps and a welcome living reality just outside the open window all entwine to push the definition of what's "home" and what's "studio", of what's a "song" and what's at the heart of the unmediated idea itself.

MRCY – Volume 1 LP (Dead Oceans)

MRCY are producer Barney Lister and vocalist Kojo Degraft-Johnson. Hailing from different ends of England and disparate cultures, theirs is a space of soulful self-expression that combines the timeless musical warmth and social consciousness of Marvin Gaye with the genre-melding, modern sensibility of Anderson.Paak and SAULT.

A harrowing document of life, death and transcendence, Do You Still Love Me? is the fifth album from Planes Mistaken for Stars (PMFS) and first new music since 2016. It is also the first PMFS release since the death of frontman Gared O'Donnell, whose cancer diagnosis loomed heavily over the recording and whose ghost guided the mix. Chemo and radiation would not stop him from making this masterpiece, in which the band finds itself reeling from the gut-wrenching horrors of their leader's unimaginable absence.

Gillian Welch & David Rawlings – Woodland CD/LP (Acony)

New album by the preeminent songwriting team Gillian Welch & David Rawlings. Following up their homespun GRAMMY-winning release All The Good Times, this ambitious 10 song album mingles full band tracks with intricate duet performances all tied together with the duo's signature sound and remarkable lyricism. Woodland was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee at Welch and Rawlings' own Woodland Sound Studio (newly rebuilt after the 2020 tornado) and cements the duo's iconoclastic position at the forefront of acoustic music.

Xeno & Oaklander – Via Negativa (in The Doorway Light) CD/LP (Dais)

The eighth and latest slate of refined retro-futuristic synth-pop by Liz Wendelbo and Sean McBride aka Xeno & Oaklander is named after and inspired by "the study of what not to do, a negative image of a positive, the other side, the other:" Via Negativa (in The Doorway Light). Recorded in the fall of 2023 at their modernist Connecticut home fashioned into a two-story synthesizer laboratory and mixing studio, the album is uniquely visionary in spirit yet precision in execution, a contrast central to the duo's enduring chemistry. Embryonic piano sketches were translated to nuanced modular systems, which McBride weighted with "harmonic padding," tuned percussion, and a spectral transfer device capable of "rendering spasms of rhythmic overtonal filigree." Despite the technological complexity of their craft, emotively the songs require no deciphering - these are technicolor widescreen anthems of the cybernetic age. [Limited edition ruby red vinyl.]

Dwight Yoakam – Brighter Days CD/2xLP (Via Entertainment Productions, Inc.)

Brighter days are up ahead, " declares Dwight Yoakam on the title track of his new album Brighter Days, his first release of new original material in nine years. Written and recorded over the last three years, Brighter Days features 12 brand-new songs written/co-written by Yoakam, as well as two seemingly disparate covers of "Keep On The Sunny Side" by the Carter Family and "Bound Away" by Cake, artfully woven into the same body of work in the unmistakable style that could only be Dwight Yoakam.

The Avett Brothers – Mignonette 2xLP (Ramseur)

Mignonette offers what the band calls 'a musical statement in honesty.' The album title was inspired by an English tale about a 19th century sea captain who was severely punished because he couldn't help but tell the truth. The Avett Brothers hope an element of truth will be felt by everyone who hears the album; they believe its presence is the common thread of great music. Album adapted into a major Broadway show opening this fall. [Indie store exclusive silver vinyl.]

Bedouin Ascent - Science, Art and Ritual 3xLP (Lapsus Records)

Science, Art And Ritual is a story of "process." Growing up in Harrow (a then quiet suburb of London) in the '70s and '80s from the age of about ten, Kingsuk Biswas aka Bedouin Ascent's ears opened up to sound as he scanned the airwaves, taking in dub, free jazz, noise, and post-punk experimentation. Throughout though, he maintained his fascination with Indian Classical music which was a mainstay in his parent's house and spoke with the same infinite space as Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures, and King Tubby's Studio dispatches. Science, Art And Ritual was released in 1994 by Rising High Records and was presented as Bedouin Ascent's debut album. Woven throughout the album are subconscious references to music that Kingsuk heard in the past that still remained within sight as companions. The style was also deliberately juxtaposed to the prevailing sound in techno at the time, which had locked onto a rigid form of symmetrical kicks and light snare drums. Elsewhere '80s soul and funk are frozen and captured in fragile glass lattices. Three decades after seeing the light, Lapsus presents a special 30th anniversary reissue of this left-field techno gem in a repackaged and redesigned edition. All pressed on a deluxe 3LP marbled vinyl and including a limited lithographic insert print of the original album cover.Tthe album also features previously unreleased tracks such as "In the Clouds" and "Thru Water" -- regularly performed live at that time and produced in the same period as the album sessions in 1993.

John Cale – The Academy In Peril [Reissue/1970] CD/LP+MP3 (Domino)
John Cale – Paris 1919 [Reissue/1973] CD/LP+MP3 (Domino)

John Cale was never very kind to his solo debut, Vintage Violence. When it was released in early 1970, Cale had been out of The Velvet Underground for less than two years. He wanted to prove he could be the songwriter, the person penning the words and melodies behind which a band could work. “I was masked on Vintage Violence,” he wrote much later. “You’re not really seeing the personality.” Indeed, Cale’s personality as a polyglot seemingly interested in everything emerged more and more on his next two solo albums, his only two for Reprise: 1972’s bracing and exploratory classical sojourn, The Academy in Peril, and 1973’s masterclass in anxious but accessible songcraft, Paris 1919. By reissuing both records in tandem affirms the artistic fearlessness Cale then fostered at the edge of 30, when all of music seemed like one inviting playpen.

Fruit Bats – Mouthfuls [Reissue/2003] LP (Jealous Butcher)

Limited edition indie retail pressing on straw colored vinyl with alternate album cover.

Gaye himself requested to sing two songs from Billie Holiday's classic album, Lady In Satin, "I'll Be Around" and "You've Changed." With brooding vocals and arrangements by such big names as Melba Liston, Jerome Richardson and Ernie Wilkins, the album showed us a deeper artist, presaging the mature Marvin later heard on Vulnerable, recorded in 1977.

George Harrison – Living In A Material World (50th Anniversary) CD/LP/2xCD/2xLP/2xCD+2xLP+7”+Blu-ray (BMG)

Living in the Material World, George Harrison’s highly praised second solo album of original music following The Beatles’ 1970 dissolution, recently marked its 50th anniversary. With lyrics underscoring his enduring exploration of spiritual themes, the album resonated deeply with audiences. Just 5 weeks after its May 1973 release, both the LP and its single “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)” held the top spots simultaneously on the US album and single charts. Upon release, Rolling Stone described it as a “pop classic,” a work that “stands alone as an article of faith, miraculous in its radiance.” Lovingly overseen by Dhani and Olivia Harrison, Living in the Material World has now been completely remixed from the original tapes for a stunning suite of 50th anniversary releases. Major Lazer – Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do [Reissue/2009] 2xLP (Mad Decent)

Making a crater-sized impact upon arrival in 2009, the music on Major Lazer's Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do has undoubtedly endured, sounding as fresh today as it did 15 years ago. Diplo and Switch's first full-length under the long-running moniker represented a pitch-perfect mix of effervescent dancehall, tangy electronic melodies, and beats so hard-hitting that they feel like they're leaping out of your speakers to give you a walloping themselves.

Dave Matthews – Listener Supported (Live) 4xLP (Sony Legacy)

Recorded live in September '99 at the Continental Airlines Arena, the show was filmed by PBS for an 'In The Spotlight' special and the album title takes its name from the "Supported by viewers like you" underwriting spot. The recording captures the late ‘90s energy of the band with both smash hits such as "Crash Into Me" and "Don't Drink The Water" as well as fan favorites including "#41" and "Two Step." Celebrated for its seamless blend of humor, wit, and social commentary, the album ushers listeners into a bizarre world of food-related metaphors, painting a bitterly comedic portrait of a life tainted by vice, violence, and jealousy. It was a brilliant and novel concept that gave DOOM plenty of room to explore the album's subjects. Throughout MM.FOOD, DOOM embeds complex ideas within seemingly simple narratives. Overall, MM.FOOD is both a social commentary and a piece of social satire, showcasing MF Doom's ability to blend serious themes with his unique, playful lyrical style. Bernard Parmegiani / François Bayle – Divine Comédie [Reissue/1995] 4xLP (Récollections GRM/Shelter Press)

Divine Comedie stands as a magnum opus crafted by two of the foremost composers of their era, boasting a musical ambition akin to Dante's poem and its visual interpretation by Sandro Botticelli or Gustave Doré. For a long time, this triptych was presented as a two-sided work in which Bernard Parmegiani's Hell and François Bayle's Purgatory responded to and extended each other, guided by Michel Hermon's voice through the listener's imagination. Because Paradise, a mixed piece co-composed and performed live, had never been released on record before. Indeed, fifty years after its premiere, Paradise is unveiled to our ears, thereby rounding off the very first complete edition of the Divine Comedy.

It includes the songs, “Streetlights,” “Winter in the Hamptons”, “It’s the Nighttime”. Entertainment Weekly described this album as, "Persistently gorgeous.”

The Unfolding – How To Blow Your Mind And Have A Freakout Party [Reissue/1967] LP (Real Gone Music)

Orange sunshine colorway. How wild did things get in 1967? So wild that a label (Audio Fidelity) not particularly known for its hipness put out a record with an insert to send away for “psychedelic ornaments” so you, too, could throw an acid party! And the back cover offered “instructions” referencing everybody from Emmett Grogan of the Diggers to Albert Hofmann, the discoverer of LSD. But perhaps the most amazing thing about this album was that, despite its almost comical (though well-informed) attempt to cash in on the psychedelic craze, How To Blow Your Mind And Have A Freakout Party wound up being a charming and even entrancing psych-pop gem of a record, albeit one with its requisite share of Eastern-influenced mumbo-jumbo.
