Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Amanda Shires – Take It Like A Man CD/LP (ATO)

Grammy and Americana Award-winning singer/songwriter and violinist, Amanda Shires, has pushed the reset button with Take It Like A Man, a record that is so unlike anything she has ever recorded that you would be tempted to think it was her debut album instead of her seventh. Shires, who also plays in The Highwomen, worked with producer Lawrence Rothman (Angel Olsen, Kim Gordon) to make a fearless confessional, showing the world what turning 40 looks like in 10 emotionally raw tracks. [Indie store exclusive white color vinyl, signed by Amanda, while supplies last.]

Beach Rats – Rat Beat CD/LP+MP3 (Epitaph)

Against the backdrop of Asbury Park, NJ rock and punk history comes Beach Rats. With a membership that includes four impossible-to-avoid New Jersey punk stalwarts including Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion), Ari Katz (Lifetime), Bryan Kienlen and Pete Steinkopf (The Bouncing Souls) and rounded out by Danny Windas, aka "Dubs" on drums. Beach Rats play a brand of hardcore/punk that stays true to their members' roots while creating something completely fresh and urgent. [Indie store exclusive clear vinyl.]

Beyoncé – Renaissance CD (Columbia)

Seventh album by the R&B and pop superstar. Includes the single "Break My Soul". [Vinyl due Sept. 16.]

Black Dice – Mod Prog Sic LP (Four Four)

Translucent blue color vinyl pressing. Mod Prog Sic is the latest album from Black Dice, their first LP in almost a decade. The album is the band at their peak, combining twisted rhythms and sharp, beamed-in guitar melodies and vocals. It packs twists and turns all along the way, morphing and changing shape, creating a truly alien form of classic rock and some of the most timeless and unique leftfield electronic music being made today.

Caracara – New Preoccupations LP (Memory Music)

Pink color vinyl pressing. In certain corners of the world, Caracara's second full-length is one of the most highly anticipated albums of any year since their 2017 debut Summer Megalith and 2019 EP Better left listeners with jaws dropped and hearts clenched. In the time since, the mostly-Philly-based band released a few standalone singles but behind the scenes, something was brewing, and it took mounting global hysteria to bring it all to focus.

Coin – Uncanny Valley CD (Ten Thousand Project)

Coin's fourth full-length album, Uncanny Valley, is born from intense fascination with what it means to be human in our digital world. In the spirit of an emotion-driven sci-fi film, the Nashville-based trio use that fascination as a lens to explore a myriad of human concerns (disconnection, infatuation, existential crisis), imbuing each song with raw honesty & cold calculation. The result is a high-concept and free-spirited album. [Vinyl edition due October 28.]

Dance Gavin Dance – Jackpot Juicer CD/2xCD/2xLP (Rise)

The follow up to 2020's Afterburner, which topped charts and debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200, Dance Gavin Dance's new album Jackpot Juicer features 18 tracks that serve as the progressive post-hardcore veterans' first new music in almost two years. Lead single “Synergy” features guest vocals from Rob Damiani of Don Broco. Jackpot Juicer also marks bassist Tim Feerick's final contributions to Dance Gavin Dance who passed away in April 2022. [Two vinyl colorways, including an indie store exclusive yellow w/ red & black pressing, are available.]

The Dead South – Easy Listening For Jerks Pt. 1 10”(Six Shooter)
The Dead South – Easy Listening For Jerks Pt. 2 10” (Six Shooter)

Released earlier this year on CD – now available on vinyl. The Carter Family meets The Addams Family in Easy Listening For Jerks, two new covers EPs by prairie pickers The Dead South. Rich with quality finger picking and replete with harmonies, Easy Listening For Jerks offers many new moods of songs we think we know so well. Under a title that recalls the songwriting humor of Roger Miller and Steve Martin's comedy stylings alike, the EPs offer a surprising and compelling mix of gravity and levity. Foggy Mountain Boys meets Beetlejuice.

Deap Vally – Marriage LP (Cooking Vinyl)

Indie exclusive orange vinyl. Being in a band is like being in a marriage: sometimes it's magical, sometimes it's unbearably challenging. To reinvigorate that marriage, Deap Vally has made their third album a genre-bending experiment with new collaborators and instrumentation that push the limits of what has previously defined the duo - Marriage is their musical Rumspringa, if you will. The album sees Julie and Lindsey break free of the rigid creative constraints within which they previously existed (two members, two instruments, two voices) and invite in collaborators such as KT Tunstall, Peaches, Jennie Vee and Jennylee, as well as a range of producers including Allen Salmon, Josiah Mazzaschi and Harvey Mason Jr.

Domi & JD Beck – Not Tight CD (Apeshit Inc./Blue Note)

Domi & JD Beck release their highly anticipated debut album Not Tight on Anderson.Paak's new label, Apeshit Inc in partnership with Blue Note Records. Featuring special guests Anderson.Paak, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, Mac DeMarco, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, the album exemplifies their trailblazing take on jazz. The New York Times hailed them as simultaneously "freakishly complex and virtuosic" and "relentlessly melodic."

Florist – Florist CD/2xLP+MP3 (Double Double Whammy)

Florist began as the friendship project of Emily Sprague, Rick Spataro, and Jonnie Baker in Upstate, NY. The three started making weird sounds on synths and guitars together as a way to relate and grew close. Felix Walworth joined as a drummer and collaborator when Emily moved to New York City and continued writing songs with the moniker. The band's newest album Florist feels like the culmination of a decade-long journey, their fourth full-length album, but the first deserving of a self-titled designation. "We called it Florist because this is not just my songs with a backing band," Sprague explains. "It's a practice. It's a collaboration. It's our one life. These are my best friends, and the music is the way that it is because of that." [Limited-edition deep purple color vinyl.]

Foxes – The Kick LP (PIAS America)

The Kick is the highly anticipated third album from Grammy-winning artist Foxes. It was written and recorded remotely via zoom during the height of the pandemic, offering a form of escapism for Foxes. Inspired by the desire for freedom that the world collectively shared over the last 18 months of lockdowns, the near-animalistic desperation to socialize, and a longing to dance again, Louisa naturally pivoted the sonics to feed that escapism and create a record that simultaneously feels close to her euphoric, dancefloor-filling pop roots that brought us hits like "Let Go For Tonight", "Youth" and "Body Talk", while still feeling completely fresh. [Limited edition clear vinyl.]

Friendship – Love The Stranger CD/LP+MP3 (Merge)

Friendship's new album, Love The Stranger, moves like a country record skipping in just the right spot, leaving its fellow travelers longing for a place they've only visited in their dreams. Guitarist Peter Gill, drummer Michael Cormier-O'Leary, bassist Jon Samuels, and hawkeyed balladeer Dan Wriggins map out the group's particular, breathtaking landscape and invite the listener to share in its glory. Friendship is probably already your favorite band's favorite band, a long-revered IYKYK of DIY with a devoted cult following from Wawa to In-N-Out. With Love The Stranger, the Friendship universe only continues to expand and grow more open-hearted, more inviting, with every passing note. It's a record that locates the listener exactly where the listener is, and wherever that may be, makes a friend out of them, too. All said and done, the age-old maxim of "Mr. Chill" holds true: "You be real with me and I'll be real with you."

Funeral Chic – Roman Candle CD/LP (Prosthetic)

Since the release of Superstition back in 2018, Funeral Chic has been through something of a metamorphosis, a rebirth if you will. With renewed purpose and a lineup that has been solidified along the way, the four-piece are preparing to release their third full length album, Roman Candle, this summer. [Limited-edition clear w/ red & yellow splatter vinyl.]

The Heavy Heavy – Life And Life Only 12” (ATO)

Limited yellow color vinyl pressing. The Heavy Heavy is led by lifelong musicians Will Turner and Georgie Fuller. The Brighton, UK-based band creates the kind of unfettered rock 'n' roll that warps time and space, sitting at the reverb-drenched collision of psychedelia, blues, acid rock, and sunshine pop. As revealed on their gloriously hazy (and soon to be legendary) debut EP Life And Life Only, they breathe wild new energy into sounds from decades ago, transcending eras with hypnotic ease. [CD edition due September 16.]

Patrick Holland – You’re The Boss LP (Sinderlyn)

Patrick Holland is no stranger to ghosts. In the last several years, the Montreal-based musician/producer has become accustomed to odd noises, electronics breaking, misplaced items, and, on a recent occasion, a glass shattering spontaneously next to him. Annoying, to be sure, but he's made peace with it; the unknown, after all, is only frightening if we allow it to be. This attitude is at the heart of Holland's new album - addressed in part to an unnamed, pseudo-paranormal "other," You're The Boss is his first foray into guitar-driven indie pop, full of upbeat reflections on relinquishing control.

Krisiun – Mortem Solis CD (Century Media)

“Brazil’s kings of death metal Armageddon Krisiun return for their 12th studio album Mortem Solis. Formed in 1990, three brothers Alex Camargo (vocals, bass) Moyses Kolesne (guitar) and Max Kolesne (drums) set forth a path of death metal legacy few bands can imagine let alone compete with. 32 years of straightforward, full throttled and aggressive death metal, always maturing but still keeping their sound consistent. Considered by many to have never released a bad album, Krisiun look to continue their skull pounding brutality. The stage is set for death metal to be true again.” – Rick Farley, Metal Epidemic

LÉON – Circles LP (BMG)

Released earlier this year on CD – now available on vinyl. Critically acclaimed indie darling LÉON continues to push artistic boundaries on her forthcoming album, Circles. This third studio album combines her knack for sincere lyrics with a hint of new age synth sounds while staying true to her signature dreamlike pop aesthetic.

The Lord – Forest Nocturne LP (Southern Lord)

The very first solo album from Greg Anderson aka The Lord (Engine Kid, Sunn O))), Goatsnake and Southern Lord Recordings curator) is an eight-song collection of dark heavy cinematic inspired darkness. Taking cues from legendary film composers Bernard Herrmann & John Carpenter and injecting lethal doses of early ‘90s Scandinavian death metal. Guest vocalist Attila Csihar (Mayhem, Sunn O))), Tormentor) lends putrid vocals to the track “Triumph Of The Oak”.

Ella Mai – Heart On My Sleeve 2xLP (Interscope)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Fully embracing her sophomore era, Heart On My Sleeve showcases a more vulnerable side to Grammy Award-winning singer Ella Mai, giving a side of herself fans have been waiting years to hear.

Moor Mother – Jazz Codes LP+MP3 (ANTI-)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Jazz Codes uses free jazz as a starting point but the collection continues the recent turn in Moor Mother's multifaceted catalog toward more melody, more singing voices, more choruses, more complexity. In its warm, densely layered course through jazz, blues, soul, hip-hop, and other Black classical traditions, Jazz Codes sets the ear blissfully adrift and unhitches the mind from habit. Through her work, Ayewa illuminates the principles of her multidisciplinary collaborative practice Black Quantum Futurism, a theoretical framework for perceiving and adjusting reality through art, writing, music, and performance, informed by historical Black ontologies. [Indie store exclusive opaque turquoise color vinyl.]

The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys – Never Slow Down LP (Smithsonian Folkways)

Like seekers finally hitting the open road after a year without its exhilarating freedom, deep-rooted bluegrass troupe The Po' Ramblin' Boys kick it into high gear on Never Slow Down, their newest collection of classic songs and soon-to-be-classic originals.

Revelators Sound System – Revelators CD/LP+MP3 (Secretly/37d03d)

Revelators Sound System is the collaborative musical project of MC Taylor (Hiss Golden Messenger) and Cameron Ralston (Spacebomb House Band). A meditation on community that caroms from root-down avant-funk to solitary cosmic minimalism and twinkling dubby ambience. Most importantly it is a deeply emotional record, the running soundtrack to a world in confusion. 10% of the proceeds from the sale of Revelators will benefit Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Camp. [Indie store exclusive opaque yellow vinyl.]

Maggie Rogers – Surrender CD/LP/Cassette (Capitol)

Co-produced by Kid Harpoon (Florence + The Machine, Harry Styles) and Maggie Rogers, Surrender is the follow-up to the Grammy-nominated artist/producer/songwriter's massively beloved 2019 debut, Heard It In A Past Life. Over the course of 12 unfettered yet exactingly crafted tracks, Rogers fully captures the frenetic intensity of the last two years of her life, bringing her bracing honesty to stories of anger and peace and self-salvation, transcendence through sex and freedom through letting go. Allowing herself abundant space to examine and embody the most complex emotions, Rogers' fierce, unflinching vulnerability ultimately alchemizes all that heightened feeling into her most joyful output yet: a body of work built for the sweaty immediacy of live performance, raw and revelatory and primed for shared abandon. [Indie store exclusive ‘tangerine dream’ color vinyl pressing is available.]

Josh Rouse – Going Places CD/LP (Yep Roc)

Josh Rouse wrote the songs for Going Places while hunkered down in Spain with his family in 2020 and 2021. The inspiration was to have a set of new songs to play in a small club run by a couple of his Spanish bandmates. Josh recorded and produced the songs in his home studio. The result is a collection of songs that feel a bit looser, lean into the guitar a bit more and will sound great in the live setting. It's also another sonic shift for Josh, who is not afraid of changing things up. What remains consistent is Josh's ability to write hooks and find grooves that create a sound that is at once familiar, but wholly new.

Shearwater – The Great Awakening 2xLP (Polyborus)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Shearwater's seventh studio album, produced by the band and Dan Duszynski (Loma), shows us where its wandering frontman has been. While the thundering songs of the band's 2016 LP Jet Plane And Oxbow were filled with fears for what the United States was becoming under the previous presidential administration, Jonathan Meiburg resolved to find a new approach for The Great Awakening. "I felt hopeless," he admits. "And I didn't want to make hopeless music." The Great Awakening is a soulful and immersive travelogue of grand atmospheres and intimate landscapes, decorated with field recordings from Meiburg's journey while writing his critically acclaimed debut book, A Most Remarkable Creature: The Hidden Life and Epic Journey of the World's Smartest Birds of Prey, released in March 2021 by Knopf. The resultant 11-track album – anchored by Meiburg's closely-recorded voice, more otherworldly and urgent than ever – is one that Shearwater's been striving toward for years: a journey into the unknown, embracing sorrow and joy, beauty, and terror.

Stick To Your Guns – Spectre CD/LP (Pure Noise)

Orange County, California melodic hardcore quintet Stick To Your Guns return with the new album Spectre. Their seventh studio album following their 2017 release True View, it finds the group delivering their most unbridled, unrestrained, and undeniable body of work to date. A Spectre is haunting the world... [Indie store exclusive black ice with white splatter vinyl.]

Tedeschi Trucks Band – I Am The Moon: III. The Fall CD (Fantasy)

The fifth studio project from the Tedeschi Trucks Band is the most ambitious and, at the same time, intimate record that America's best rock 'n' roll big band has ever made: a genuinely epic undertaking in four episodes and 24 songs inspired by classical literature but emotionally driven by the immediate drama, isolation and mourning of the pandemic era. [Vinyl edition due September 9.]

Trouble – Plastic Green Head LP (Napalm)

Recently released on CD – now available vinyl. On Plastic Green Head, doom metallers Trouble adopt a more laidback, stoner metal approach, sacrificing sinister atmospheres for more upbeat ones.

Eddie Vedder – Earthling CD/LP/Cassette (Republic)

Earthling serves as Eddie Vedder's first solo album since releasing Ukelele Songs in 2011 and third overall. Helmed by reigning Grammy Producer of the Year Andrew Watt and recorded at his Beverly Hills studio, the new collection comes introduced by the singles "Long Way", "The Halves" and "Brother The Cloud". Earthling features collaborations with a multitude of music legends including Stevie Wonder, Ringo Starr, and Elton John. In a New York Times Magazine interview Eddie noted: "the album is structured kind of like a concert: The special guests come out at the end. Stevie, then Elton, then we've got our "Mrs. Mills" song with Ringo. Then the last special guest was my father, whom I really didn't get to know." [Indie store exclusive translucent blue w/ black marble vinyl.]

Viagra Boys – Cave World LP (Fuga)

Recently released on CD and cassette – now available in two colorways (red and green) on vinyl. “For those who find Fat White Family a touch too debonair, Sweden’s Viagra Boys go one gristlier. Their two albums since 2018 have documented all manner of criminal, antisocial and self-destructive gutter life in visceral post-punk style. The band even found space on last year’s Welfare Jazz to cover John Prine’s country duet of redneck romance ‘In Spite Of Ourselves’ with Amyl And The Sniffers’ Amy Taylor playing the trucker-mouthed Juliet to singer Sebastian Murphy’s sleazy Romeo. If the worst of times brings out the worst in people, Viagra Boys are set to be icons of the age, and Cave World its defining document. As scientists prepare a time capsule of humanity for future species to find, it’s a shoo-in. – Mark Beaumont, NME

Whiskey Myers – Tornillo CD/LP (Wiggy Thump)

“Bluesy/boozy Texas firebrands Whiskey Myers cemented themselves as one of modern outlaw country’s most popular bands with their 2019 self-produced and self-titled fifth record. The acclaim and opportunity the record garnered, including syncing on the popular Yellowstone series, fueled the sextet to work on this sixth outing, a once again self-produced album referencing the border town where it was recorded. Like the previous album, this hour-long, 11-track (if you don’t count the 52-second opening title tune) trawl through swampy, Southern Country-inflected rock does throw some curves, but remains on the dedicated path they have forged over the past 16 years. To their credit, Myers take a more soulful stance for much of Tornillo. That includes inviting The McCrary Sisters to bring the gospel on rockers such as ‘Bad Medicine’ and the stomping ‘Whole World’s Crazy’. Their backing vocals are key to infusing the soaring soul on the leather-tough ballad ‘For the Kids’, as frontman/singer Cody Cannon sings of needing to stay together for the children, even if “We don’t have to be happy”. It’s one of the set’s most gripping and emotionally wrenching moments.” – Hal Horowitz, Holler. [Indie store exclusive translucent copper vinyl.]

Reissues, Compilations, Live Recordings & Vault Excavations...

Celebrating its tenth birthday in 2022 is A Giant Dog Fight, the Texas group's hard-to-find debut album, remixed, remastered, and pressed on green vinyl just for the occasion. Upon Fight's original release, the local Austin Chronicle raved: "The raucous, low-rent squall quakes with affirmative abandon, while a just-right dose of pop girds the buzz and yowl. Bone followed a year later, and has been repressed on pink color vinyl.

Natalie Beridze – Of Which One Knows LP (Room40)

Of Which One Knows was written and produced between 2007-2021. Such unreleased material is a quintessential backdrop to an artist's processes, as it has obviously never landed in any full bodies of work. It does however gain humble significance, which feels approachable, which is about absence and hence always fresh, drifting somewhere between remembrance and obliviousness. I see sound in smells, maps and mischievously put random words in poems, as they provoke pivotal subconscious algorithms in me. These tracks are the portrayal of those feelings.

Blitzen Trapper – VII [Reissue/2013] LP (Vagrant)

Limited orange color vinyl pressing of the seventh studio album by the American alternative country band. Described on the band's official site as "somewhat experimental... a futuristic hip-hop/country-rock hybrid" and by lead singer and songwriter Eric Earley as "hillbilly gangster."

Eric Clapton – Nothing But The Blues 2xLP (Reprise)

Recently released on CD and Super Deluxe box set – now available on stand-alone vinyl. Eric Clapton's lifelong passion for the blues burns brightly in Nothing But The Blues. The audio soundtrack (available on CD and Super Deluxe box set which includes the 1995 PBS film) features 18 previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1994 during the legendary guitarist's tour supporting his Grammy-winning, multi-platinum blues album From The Cradle. Clapton's longtime co-producer, Simon Climie, has remixed the audio from those performances from the original multi-tracking recordings. The previously unreleased live performances on Nothing But the Blues serve as a vital counterpart to From The Cradle, which was recorded in the studio. While several songs appear on both ("Motherless Child", "Standing 'Round Crying", "I'm Tore Down"), the performances are entirely different. The release also includes songs that did not appear on From The Cradle, including Jimmy Rogers' "Blues All Day Long" and Robert Johnson's "Malted Milk", as well as the standards "Every Day I Have The Blues" and "Forty-Four".

Sonny Clark – Dial “S” For Sonny [Reissue/1957] LP (Blue Note)

[Limited-edition red smoke color vinyl.]

Fear Factory – Soul Of A New Machine [Reissue/1992] 3xLP (Rhino)

30th Anniversary Edition. Guitarist Dino Cazareshas stated that Soul Of A New Machine is a concept album, concerning man's creation of a machine that could be either technological or governmental. The concept would later play a more prominent role in some of Fear Factory's later albums. The sound of the record is different from the later albums, as it was influenced by many different extreme sub-genres of metal, such as death metal, thrash metal and grindcore, hence making the band an "anomaly" among others since it did not fit into any genre category at that time.

Finn – Finn [Reissue/1995] LP (Needle Mythology)

First-time vinyl pressing. Released in close collaboration with Tim and Neil, this newly expanded Finn includes The Finn Demos which gathers ten songs from 1989's legendary Murchison St. Sessions, remastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios. Recorded and produced by Seth Manchester (Lighting Bolt, Battles, Fang Island) at Machines With Magnets and mastered by Heba Kadry (Future Islands, White Lung, Ty Segall) at Timeless Mastering, Goodness proved once again that The Hotelier was not content to stand still as it pushed and progressed its art further.

Mary McCreary was Leon Russell's backup singer, and in the wake of the release of Will O' The Wisp, the two got married and decided to release an album together to kick off his new label, Paradise Records. Russell wrote most of the album's songs, but he and Mary penned one together – "Love's Supposed To Be That Way" – and produced all but one song on the album: "Daylight", which was produced by the man who wrote it, Mr. Bobby Womack. There was a fair amount of buzz around the release of The Wedding Album, thanks partly to the couple's marriage, although it certainly didn't hurt when they were selected as the musical guest for the May 15, 1976, episode of Saturday Night Live.

The Sons Of Adam – Saturday’s Sons – The Complete Recordings 1964 – 1968 2xLP (High Moon)

The Sons Of Adam - a lean, mean rock ‘n’ roll machine from the Hollywood rock scene of the mid-‘60s - quite literally blew the competition off the stage. Led by influential lead guitarist Randy Holden (Other Half / Blue Cheer), The Sons boasted an affable frontman in Jac Ttanna (Genesis) and an incomparable rhythm section in Mike Port and Michael Stuart-Ware (Love). Schooled in surf, emboldened by the British Invasion, the band had a fearsome reputation as a live act. On this unprecedented anthology, Saturday's Sons features a previously unreleased 1966 full concert performance from San Francisco's famed Avalon Ballroom, a recording so powerfully dynamic that few listeners will doubt the band's masterful live presence.

Hunter S. Thompson – The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent And Depraved LP (Shimmy Disc)

Brown color vinyl pressing. For the first time ever released on vinyl, this brilliant 2012 LP features an all-star cast of musicians and actors lead by Tim Robbins, Dr. John, Bill Frisell, Ralph Steadman, Annie Ross, John Joyce III and Will Forte. Hunter S. Thompson's classic Gonzo reportage on the 1970 Kentucky Derby is summoned brilliantly to life through spoken word and musical composition. Conceived by executive producer Michael Minzer for his Paris Records label, the project was produced by Hal Willner, who brought Bill Frisell in as composer/arranger/conductor. Bill then asesmbled a stellar group of musicians including Curtis Fowlkes (trombone), Ron Miles (trumpet), Eyvind Kang (viola), Doug Weiselman (woodwinds), Jenny Scheinman (violin), Hank Roberts (cello) and Kenny Wolleson (drums, percussion). Ralph Steadman does double duty portraying himself in the narration and contributing original artwork for the project.

Steve Tibbetts – Hellbound Train: An Anthology 2xCD (ECM)

Hellbound Train is a retrospective from Steve Tibbetts with music selected by the guitarist from his 40 years of recordings for ECM, neatly divided into electric and acoustic chapters. With its liquid melodies, textures, hypnotic patterns, and pulsations subtly influenced by music of many cultures, it's an ideal introduction to his unique body of work. At different times Tibbetts might seem closer to minimalism, alternate rock, or ambient music, yet his artistic signature is unmistakable.

Rufus Wainwright – Rufus Does Judy At Capitol Studios LP (BMG)

Rufus Does Judy At Capitol Studios finds Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright performing his groundbreaking 2007 tribute to Judy Garland, Rufus Does Judy At Carnegie Hall, in its entirety, live from Los Angeles' famed Capitol Studios. "The American Songbook and Judy Garland's famed 1961 Carnegie Hall concert gave me a lot of hope after 9/11 and lead to the idea for my first song by song recreation of that show at the same venue," says Wainwright. "It felt fitting to do the entire set again as the dazzling finale of my Rufus-Retro-Wainwright-Spective and hopefully the beginning of the finale of this global pandemic. Once again, these songs revealed their healing power. To be able to sing them in front of Renée, to sing with Kristin Chenoweth and still have my sister Martha be part of these shows was particularly meaningful although to sing them into the very microphone that Judy used for her recordings at Capitol Studios was the most mind-blowing."

Whitechapel – Whitechapel [Reissue/2012] LP (Metal Blade)

In celebration of 10th anniversary of the deathcore band's self-titled album, Whitechapel is available on marbled color vinyl.

Keller Williams – Laugh [Reissue/2002] 2xLP (Sci Fidelity)

“Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Keller Williams isn't a performer whose music is easy to fit into a cookie-cutter category. He has a style all his own and doesn't seem to mind if others have trouble placing a label on it. That strategy must be working for him since he has completed half a dozen full-length offerings for his fans. If one tries to categorize Williams' music, they might call it a mixture of styles: a little bluegrass, a little reggae, a little jazz, a little funk, and more than a few dashes of jam band, all stirred into something he loves to share. Maybe a taste for the latter comes from working on recordings with the jam band String Cheese Incident. Williams does have a band of his own that features drummer and percussionist Dave Watts and bassist Tye North. The songs on this album, Laugh, have some interesting titles that might prepare listeners ahead of time for Williams' often tongue-in-cheek type of lyrics.” -- AllMusic

Emily Yacina – All The Things: A Decade Of Songs LP (Danger Collective)

Bone white color vinyl. Emily Yacina is a Pennsylvania-born Long Beach-based musician and songwriter who began writing and recording songs at age 14. All The Things is a career-spanning compilation of songs by Yacina that highlights her ability to work adeptly across a wide range of styles and abilities as both a producer and collaborator. Yacina's songs have the power to convey large-scale feelings and ideas with striking immediacy, just as much in her lo-fi home recordings as in her glossier recent studio recordings, which have a richness that gives them an extra dimension of space to bloom.
