Preorder Vundabar’s upcoming album, Surgery and Pleasure, and make plans to come and see them in the record store when they stop by Grimey’s just a few days after their album drops. Vundabar will be performing a short set in the shop to be followed by an album signing. You can preorder a copy here or at Grimey’s and score a wristband for the band’s signing. Wristbands are required for the signing for all 13+ (kids 12 & under don’t need a wristband to participate in the signing if attending with a wristband-holding adult). Formed​ by​ Brandon​ Hagen​ (guitar,​ vocals)​ and​ Drew​ McDonald​ (drums),​ and​ later​ joined​ by​ Zack​ Abramo​ (bass),​ Vundabar​ have​ always​ been​ imbued​ with​ a​ fiercely​ independent​ spirit,​ thei​r​ sound​ for​ged​ in​ mythical​ underground​ Brooklyn​ venues​ such​ as​ Silent​ Barn​ and​ Shea​ Stadium. After years of self-releasing, Vundabar recently signed to esteemed label Loma Vista Recordings for their sixth full-length, Surgery and Pleasure. It began with “I Got Cracked”—the song that would spark a whole new chapter in Vundabar’s story. The immediacy of the track drew much attention. Hagen, alongside his long time bandmates, was closing in on 30. Whatever came next on the other side of everything would have to be different.

Informed by Hagen’s years of isolation, loss, injury, and recovery, Surgery and Pleasure proceeds through a cycle of grief and the ways it manifests in unexpected forms. After all these catharses and journeys deep inward, it climaxes with a moment of resolution that reaches outward on “I Need You”. Sprawling out at six minutes, it’s tender until boiling over into a roaring finale. “It’s the moment of mercy,” Hagen says. “These are the things that connect you to anybody else. This is the moment outward, what comes after it.”

Surgery and Pleasure is available for preorder now on limited edition, milky clear vinyl LP and CD. Preorders are limited to two (2) per format, per customer / household. All who preorder the album for local, store pickup will receive a wristband with their preorder. All who preorder the album for mail order will receive a signed copy, after our event with the band on 3/11.
